Accounting Manager

NEXT has strategically located local warehouses across and beyond the GTA, each with a full quantity of inventory and strong, strategic delivery capabilities. Role Overview The Accounting Manager enhances customer and co-worker experiences by overseeing the accounting department to ensure financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and accurate reporting through effective leadership and process management. They contribute to the company’s success by guiding staff, managing reconciliations and audits, and completing all responsibilities with precision, professionalism, and confidentiality. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the Accounting Department, including recruitment and staff development; implement internal succession by identifying and developing high‑potential team members; foster a positive and collaborative work environment by communicating clear expectations, listening to the team, and celebrating achievements. Operational Oversight: Prepare and analyze financial statements and other financial reports; maintain accurate accounting records by performing general ledger account reconciliations; facilitate and complete month‑end and year‑end close procedures; ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets; engage with external auditors and prepare documentation per audit engagement letters; prepare bank reports and other reporting requirements; liaise with external audits; actively engage in special projects; ensure that all tasks are completed accurately and on time. Strategic Planning and Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance productivity; stay updated with internal reports, industry trends and best practices to ensure continuous improvement. Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with the finance team, management, and other departments; provide regular updates and reports to the Controller. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks. Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management abilities. Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and business planning skills, including the ability to research and elevate issues when necessary. Strong and demonstrated understanding of ASPE principles, including controls and standards. Strong ability to interpret financial statements and ratios with accuracy. Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Products (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook). Experience & Education 5+ years of working experience in accounting is required. Certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) achieved or near completion is required. Previous distribution industry experience is an asset. Physical Demands / Working Conditions Position requires the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle high‑pressure situations calmly and effectively. This position requires prolonged periods of working at a computer and using a keyboard and mouse.
