Senior Structural or Building Forensic Engineer We’re looking for a Senior Structural or Building Forensic Engineer to join our growing team in the Edmonton area. The role supports the Intact team across Canada, with representation in Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. The position will mainly involve travel within the Edmonton Area and requires investigation and research to identify causal factors of damage while considering and ruling out other possible causes for residential, commercial and light industrial claims. You will recreate the sequence of events that led to the loss, reverse engineer the scene and determine the most probable cause, justifying your conclusions. By validating hypotheses and testing scenarios, you will apply the scientific method to identify loss causes and provide this information to the claims team. You will produce short and detailed reports for major damages and may be called to testify in court to present your expert opinion. What You’ll Do Here Assist the claims team to guide the resolution of building and structural claims for residential and commercial buildings and other structures Complete mandates for internal and external experts; collaborate with building evaluators and other key stakeholders Travel to meet insured parties and objectively understand the circumstances of their claim Document the scene and state your opinion as to the probable cause of the damage Record your opinion in writing and contribute technical insight to facilitate conflict resolution during a claim Address a range of claim types, including building collapses, roof and cladding detachments, foundation cracks, in-ground pool damage, retrofits, water ingress, and other issues affecting buildings or structures Assist in record-keeping and follow-up to maintain the certificate of authorization What You Bring To The Table University degree in Civil, Structural and/or Building Engineering or a combination of education and relevant experience Member in good standing of PEO Professional Engineer of Ontario Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record Advanced knowledge of buildings and construction methods Advanced knowledge of Part 9 of the Canadian Building Code; Part 3 and 4 is an asset Experience in the insurance field and as an expert before the courts is an asset Strong professional presentation and written and oral communication skills This role is eligible for an employee referral bonus. #myReferrals3000 What We Offer Hybrid work arrangement balancing remote work and in-person collaboration Comprehensive benefits recognizing your success Employee stock purchase plan with company match on 50% of net shares purchased Flexible retirement and benefits package including virtual health services Flexible work arrangements and opportunities to purchase up to five additional vacation days per year Well-being account to support a healthy and active lifestyle Resources to stay healthy physically and mentally and to adapt to change Dynamic learning ecosystem with opportunity for growth and development Inclusive networks led by employees to inform, inspire and connect Supportive leadership and colleagues for your development Community involvement programs and opportunities to give back Equal Employment Opportunity Intact values respect and inclusion.
