Applies knowledge in health promotion, epidemiology, community development, primary health care, and public health ethics. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates health services for individuals, families, groups and communities in schools, homes, communities and outreach locations.ResponsibilitiesImmunizes children and adults against vaccine preventable disease.Applies epidemiological principles and knowledge of disease processes to investigate and follow up on communicable diseases (including outbreak management) per policies and protocols.Provides prenatal/postnatal/family assessments, counseling, service coordination, follow-up, support and referral to promote healthy child development and early identification of developmental concerns.Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, delivers education programs, provides health information, counseling and referrals related to lifestyle issues, cultural/language barriers, school health, reproductive health, chronic disease prevention, and safety/injury prevention across clinical, school, home, community and outreach settings.Participates in community development processes to address health needs and promote health promotion and disease prevention; advocates for healthy public policy and services.Maintains related records, documents observations and outcomes, collects statistics, and prepares reports per standards.Provides preceptorship/mentorship for nursing students and supports orientation of new health professionals.Participates in research, surveys, and focus groups as needed for service improvement.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceCurrent practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Graduation from an approved school of nursing including public health nursing component. Six (6) months recent, relevant Public Health nursing experience or one year recent nursing experience in Maternal/Infant/Child or successful completion of FH New Grad requirements with final practicum/Co-op in Public Health. Valid Class V B.C.
