Your Opportunity The Alberta Water Team (based in Edmonton) has an opportunity for a Water Resources Engineer‑in‑Training who has a passion for engineering design and/or hydraulic modeling related to wastewater collection, stormwater management and water distribution systems. We seek an enthusiastic, self‑motivated, detail‑oriented team player who is excited about expanding their knowledge on various water resources projects. The qualified candidate will assist senior engineers/designers by performing tasks which may include engineering calculations, designs, modelling, fieldwork, data analysis, reporting, and other engineering assignments, all in a friendly, fast‑paced work environment. Your Key Responsibilities This role will involve participating in a wide variety of water resources and municipal infrastructure projects, from planning and conceptual design to detailed design and construction support. Collaborate with senior engineers and hydrologic/hydraulic modelers and project leaders to ensure that the projects’ needs are met and priorities are understood. Develop stormwater (piped and overland flow), wastewater collection, and water distribution system hydraulic models to assess performance, investigate system deficiencies and generate/evaluate feasible remedial solutions. Develop hydrologic models and perform hydrologic calculations to estimate stormwater runoff quantities. Assist and/or undertake field investigations supporting hydraulic/hydrologic model builds and conceptual/functional designs. Interpret and communicate model results in technical reports, design briefs and presentations to internal and external clients. Coordinate and provide design / hydraulic modeling support for various studies associated with multidisciplinary water-related projects, including water conveyance, transportation, environmental, and community development projects. Contribute to the conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design of water related projects including site civil, conveyance and water resources projects. Writing reports and design briefs. Project coordination and providing assistance to various project managers on a variety of projects. Coordinating design drawings and specification development. Attending internal, client and contactor meetings and documenting the meetings with minutes. Contract Administration as required for a wide variety of construction projects. Sound understanding of water, environmental principles, and engineering concepts, including hydraulics and hydrology. Commitment to client satisfaction and the delivery of high‑quality work products. Experience analyzing and managing data, interpreting hydraulic model results and producing clear visuals to demonstrate results. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, responsibilities and projects and adjust to changing demands. Highly skilled in common desktop packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.) Strong interpersonal, time management and communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to produce robust technical writing pieces (e.g. reports or proposals). Flexibility to work beyond regular business hours when needed. The following would be considered assets: Previous experience working with municipalities, utility owners or in engineering consulting. Working knowledge of industry‑standard hydraulic/hydrologic modelling tools, including InfoWorks CS/ICM, MIKE Suite, PCSWMM, WaterCAD, HEC‑RAS, ArcGIS, Global Mapper, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D. Experience in developing (building), calibrating and interpreting hydraulic/hydrologic models. Application of AI to engineering and modelling tasks. A strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure design and construction. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited university, preferably in the water resources and/or environmental disciplines. Registered with APEGA as an EIT or P.Eng. (or eligible to register) Minimum 2 years of demonstrated related experience. Work Environment Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. As part of the Water Resources Team, you will contribute to helping our clients manage their sanitary, stormwater, and water systems. You will also rely on expert‑level guidance from senior engineers in the company. Our team has significant workload across Western Canada, North America and beyond. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
