This role is responsible for developing and setting up projects within the cost control system, as well as maintaining and handling advanced reporting, analytics, dashboards, and other business intelligence (BI) solutions for Teck projects, utilizing project cost management tools and systems.The Senior Project Controls Specialist will focus on project controls processes and systems, and will play a dual role within the Projects Group—supporting multiple projects concurrently. Approximately 50% of their time will be dedicated to core project controls functions, while the remaining 50% will be working on data analysis and reporting to support project performance and decision-making.This position is based in the Vancouver Office with occasional travel to project sites as the need arises to facilitate project setup, maintenance, and training in our project cost management system (Unifier), and standardized reporting methodologies.Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to be part of one of Canada's leading mining companies and join our teamKey ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresMaintain and demonstrate Teck's commitment to safety and environmental protection as a core valueCollaborate and communicate with stakeholders and project teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications, presenting findings and reports clearly and effectivelyExtract, transform, and load data from various sources to build comprehensive datasets for analysisDevelop and implement data models, reports, and dashboards that deliver actionable insights to support decision-makingMonitor and solve data quality issues, ensuring accuracy and reliability of reportsLook for opportunities for improvement by identifying and addressing gaps in the current systems and reporting through problem-solving and implementation of solutionsDeliver training and support to end-users on Power BI tools and guidelines including analysis of project performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvementDeliver training and support to end-users on project cost management system(s) and guidelinesAssist in the development and maintenance of project reporting systems and processesAssist in setup of the project cost management system and provide ongoing maintenance and support as needed for project teamsPrepare and present regular project status reports to management and partnersAssist with the development, modification and/or implementation of project reporting and project setup techniques and methodsTransfer learning from actual project reporting and project setup implementation into the improvement of company guidelines and proceduresSupport on setting up projects in UnifierAssist in developing and maintaining project budgets and forecastsSupervise and control project costs to ensure alignment with budget parametersPrepare detailed cost reports and financial summaries for senior managementSupport in identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing effective cost control measuresSupport in conducting variance analysis and recommending corrective actionsSupport in identifying and assessing project risks, developing vital mitigation plans as neededSupport in the implementation of quality control measures to ensure all project deliverables meet established standardsProvide guidance and mentorship to junior project controls staff on all aspect of Project ControlsDevelop and implement onboarding programs for new team members, fostering a collaborative team environmentDevelop, maintain, and handle advanced reporting, analytics, dashboards, and BI solutions using Power BI and other project cost management toolsExtract, transform, and Load (ETL) data from various sources to create comprehensive datasets for analysisProvide training and support to end-users on Power BI tools and project cost management systemsLook for opportunities for improvement by leveraging data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for project performance enhancementQualificationsDegree or diploma in engineering, accounting, finance or business, or diploma in a trade7+ years of project cost control experience, with preference to mining/industrial projects3+ years of project cost control experience in an Owner's role2+ years of field experienceDemonstrated proficiency in project management and project controls techniques and principlesDirect knowledge and experience of Project Controls interfaces with other functional groupsStrong knowledge of the engineering and construction industryExperience in both Study and Execution stages of projects is required, including project setupExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenStrong critical thinking and problem-solving abilitiesExperience creating dashboards and reporting using PowerBIStrong skills in SQL for querying databases and managing dataExperience using cost control software such as Unifier, PRISM or Cleopatra is considered an assetExperience using a scheduling tool like MS Project or Primavera 6 is considered an assetCPA, PEng or AScT registration considered an assetCCP, CEP, PMP or other similar designations considered an assetBilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is considered a significant assetPay Range: CAD $135,000 -
