The Faculty equips students to make a meaningful impact in their careers and society.About The RoleThe Operations Manager is a newly created position that supports the growing aviation program and reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Communication Studies and Aviation. This full‑time, in‑person role requires minimal supervision, high decision‑making authority, and oversight of the Aviation Facility at Springbank Campus. Key responsibilities include daily flight training operations, long‑term planning, logistics, safety improvements, and collaboration with the Academic Director and Chief Flight Instructor.ResponsibilitiesOversee hangar operations, including financial management, maintenance, inventory, scheduling, and training systems.Ensure safe and efficient daily movements of aircraft and pilots.Manage logistics of daily operations, adhere to university policies, and resolve operational issues.Work with Safety Officers to implement safety improvements and review hazards related to hangar operations.Oversee building operations and contracts, including security, snow removal, housekeeping, landscaping, and fuel deliveries.Collaborate with Springbank Airport and Calgary Airport Authority on lease agreement management.Lead hangar operations projects and serve as liaison with university departments such as Finance, Registrar’s Office, and Information Technologies.Ensure compliance with Mount Royal University Collective Agreements.Financial, People Management, and DevelopmentManage flight scheduling, maintenance, invoicing, and flight training payment processes accurately and efficiently.Handle contract and purchasing processes related to hangar operations.Plan finances and operate the flight school and hangar within established budgets.Oversee student payments.Supervise staff performance in accordance with University policies and Collective Agreements.Recruit, train, and supervise hangar operations and maintenance staff.Promote a positive and collaborative work environment, addressing staff concerns appropriately.Coach, mentor, and oversee performance management, providing timely and constructive feedback and setting clear goals.Aircraft and SimulatorCollect and analyze data to inform fleet planning.Oversee maintenance of aircraft and simulators at Springbank and MRU main campus.Negotiate contracts with Procurement to support maintenance, snow removal, and leasing of planes.QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in Aviation or Operations Management.Three to six years of experience in a senior operations or management role within the aviation industry.Experience leading and supervising others.Project management experience.Prior budgeting and financial management responsibility.Knowledge of the aviation industry.Experience with contract management and warehouse operations.Experience with data management, analysis, reporting, and control.Familiarity with Flightlogger, WinAir, inventory control, and financial management systems.SkillsExceptional leadership and team understanding.Excellent communication skills.Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and switch focus throughout the day.Experience building new processes in a dynamic environment.Problem solving and attention to detail.Leadership, integrity, and empowerment.Inclusive engagement and innovative risk taking.Knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (preferred).Overview of flight training requirements (preferred).Salary$86,406.00 – $119,238.00 per annumClosing DateOpen until a suitable candidate is foundApplication InstructionsA cover letter and résumé should be submitted in one .pdf document.
