The Role

As a member of the Global Banking and Markets (GBM) Communications team, the Senior Manager, GBM Communications, will play a leading role in producing internal and external communications for Scotiabank’s GBM business. The Senior Manager, GBM Communications will conceptualize, create, deliver, and measure the success of internal and external communications while ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures and are aligned to GBM strategy and all-Bank priorities.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  1. Lead the end-to-end process of internal and external communications for assigned portfolios while ensuring alignment with Global Communications, all-Bank and GBM strategy and priorities, by:
    1. Being a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team and working closely with business partners, senior management, and other key stakeholders.
    2. Supporting external communication requirements, including managing inbound media inquiries, obtaining approvals, developing briefs, and supporting proactive media opportunities to support GBM.
    3. Ensuring communication alignment across our global GBM channels and calendars.
    4. Representing GBM communications on various working teams and at periodic cross-functional status meetings.
    5. Leading global/broader GBM-wide communications initiatives and projects.
    6. Providing support on executive communication priorities as needed.
  2. Contribute to the effective functioning of the GBM Communications team by:
    1. Supporting a high-performance environment that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team.
    2. Acting as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to senior business leaders, key partners and communications leaders across the bank.
    3. Fostering strong relationships with stakeholders to further the Bank’s communications objectives.
    4. Leveraging feedback from formal and informal channels to deliver strong and aligned communications.
    5. Staying current and implementing communications best practices.
    6. Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
    7. Fostering a culture that promotes new ideas, effective challenge, and open communication.
    8. Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings, encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches, and recommending process improvements.
  3. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  4. Actively pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in communications, journalism or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years working experience in a corporate communications or related industry communications experience.
  • Knowledge of the financial services marketplace with an understanding of Scotiabank’s competitive positioning.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience communicating via print, web, visual media and emerging communication platforms.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • A high degree of comfort briefing and engaging with senior decision-makers.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships.
  • An ability to solve problems and work in a matrixed environment.
  • Fluency in a secondary language (Spanish/French) is an asset.
  • A commitment to curiosity, and professional and personal growth.
  • Discreet ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to take complex ideas and translate them into digestible key messages.
  • Flexible and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Ability to create enthusiasm and foster a team environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of business-related software.
