OverviewSenior Sub-System Lead Specialist - Body Controls at General Motors. Hybrid work arrangement with reporting to Markham Elevation Centre (MEC) or Oshawa Elevation Centre (OEC) three times per week.Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying the embedded controls and software for vehicle systems and components that manage motion, access, vision, occupant position, protection, and comfort. The role participates in Agile Scrum teams to develop Body Controls software and controls for GM vehicles globally. The exact placement will be discussed during interview based on business needs and candidate skillset.The Sub-System Lead Specialist (SSLE) is a senior individual contributor with expertise across the vehicle development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, and issue resolution. The role collaborates with system engineers, software developers, testers, and other stakeholders to support innovative technology development.What You’ll Do / ResponsibilitiesCreate and maintain Sub-System Technical Specifications (SSTS) and other requirements (Component Technical Requirements Specifications-CTRS, serial data, diagnostics, U-services, etc.) for applicable subsystems and ART software solutions using requirements management software (e.g. DOORS Next Gen, DOORS).Create and maintain Behavior Technical Specifications (BTS) for applicable software solutions, following Behavior Driven Development (BDD) principles, including leading triad meetings with key stakeholders.Develop and maintain blueprints and/or functional block diagrams for assigned software solutions.Design and Sustain MBSE diagrams (e.g. BDD, Use-case, Activity, Internal Block Diagram) for responsible software solutions using Rhapsody.Establish and uphold Subsystem/Solution FMEAs using the FMEA Integration Tool (FIT); support development and linking of Software Component FMEAs, Process FMEAs, and system FMEAs with software-related context, focusing on high severity items.Collaborate cross-functionally with other SSLEs to ensure robust integration of subsystems/solutions and discuss interface failure modes.Create and update Calibration Bill of Materials (CalBOM) template for calibrations.Collaborate with Controls and Software Engineers to review controls design and/or software implementation for requirement compliance.Support definition and implementation of Testable Functionality Roll-Out Plan (TFRP).Work with Validation Engineers to create testable scenarios ensuring BTS requirements are met with a robust test plan.Support root cause analysis for sub-system issues and translate resolutions into new or revised requirements as appropriate.Support development of requirements related to OBD regulations or calibrations, as applicable.Support development and tagging of safety requirements based on roll-down from systems/systems safety and regulatory requirements.Operate in agile software development of requirements as a key participant in scrum meetings and ART ceremonies (e.g., Daily Stand-Up, Iteration Planning, Iteration Review, Program Increment Planning).Create and maintain Features and Stories to manage requirements and sub-system specifications using change management tools (e.g., Jira) and complete stories by agreed timing.Review Owner’s Manual and Service information related to the applicable sub-system for alignment with intended operation where applicable.Provide guidance to support COSIM environment development.Provide input for feature design verification plans by working with System/Feature Owners and Validation Engineers.Support advanced technical work projects that drive future features and vehicle enhancements.Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Systems / Mechatronic / Mechanical / Controls / Electrical / Software or related engineering discipline.Technical Writing, Signal Mapping, Software FMEA.Minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience.Experience related to mechatronic systems or subsystems.Basic knowledge of controls theory and the software development process.Strong analytical problem-solving skills and independent judgment.Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to solve problems with team members and customers.Physics-based understanding of VOC and CTQ requirements.Ability to communicate issues, status, and recommendations to leadership.Proven project management skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to teach others.Ability to prioritize work with limited direction.Preferred QualificationsMasters or PhD in Engineering with emphasis on Systems, Mechatronics, software or Controls.Experience with writing, interpreting or managing requirements; calibration, software, and controls development.Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DNG, DOORS).Experience with Behavior Driven Development (BDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD), Gherkin syntax.Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering and tools (e.g. Rhapsody).Knowledge of risk assessment tools such as FMEA; experience with simulation environments and plant modeling (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, CarSim, GT-Power, D-Space, ETAS).Experience with work management tools (JIRA/JIRA Align, Azure, IBM Rational Team Concert).Experience with OBD regulations; Agile methodologies; automotive regulations or safety-critical systems.Experience with Microsoft Visio; automotive electrical architectures and/or software-defined vehicles.Familiarity with vehicle network protocols such as CAN, LIN, and SPI; hardware I/O level controller knowledge.Note: This job is not eligible for relocation benefits.
