Alberta Health Services (AHS) needs someone like you to join our dynamic team at the Peter Lougheed Centre, a centre of excellence for hematology, respiratory, vascular surgery, and addictions and mental health located in Northwest Calgary. As a Diagnostic Sonographer on our team, you will support a safe and efficient patient‑and‑family‑centered care experience. As part of an interdisciplinary Diagnostic Imaging Services team, this position takes a variety of ultrasound images on various organs, monitoring health conditions, and providing Maternal‑Fetal Medicine scans. The Diagnostic Sonographer in this role provides imaging guidance for women’s health procedures in the Operating Room and supports Interventional Radiologists while performing ultrasound‑guided procedures. Responsibilities As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and taking initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention, and patient management while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required. Required Qualifications Completion of an extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS‑HCP). Additional Required Qualifications Graduate of an approved training program in Ultrasonography. Ability to provide imaging guidance for women’s health procedures in the Operating Room. Ability to support Interventional Radiologists while performing ultrasound‑guided procedures. Ability to work independently and efficiently supporting a very busy Emergency Department on weekends and evenings. Should be able to complete a scan interview as part of the hiring process. Preferred Qualifications Vascular and BCLS certifications. Working knowledge of EPIC. Maternal‑Fetal Medicine experience. Demonstrated proficient organizational, technical, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations. Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
