Job Title: (Palo Alto) Network Security Engineer Contract: 12 months to start Location: Downtown Toronto (1x per week on-site) We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Palo Alto Network Security Engineer to join our client’s team. This role is critical for the design, deployment, implementation, and operation of our next‑generation network security infrastructure, with a specialized focus on Palo Alto Networks’ Prisma Access and Azure Virtual Scale Set Firewalls. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in network routing, BGP, NAT, and Policy‑Based Routing (PBR), and thrive in a large‑scale, fast‑paced financial organization. Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and implementation of robust network security infrastructure systems and equipment, ensuring high availability and compliance. Act as the technical expert on Palo Alto Networks security products, including Prisma Access, NGFW (Strata), Cloud‑Delivered Logging (CDL), and Extended Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (XOAR). Deploy and manage Palo Alto Virtual Scale Set Firewalls (F/W’s) within the Microsoft Azure cloud environment. Execute complex routing, PBR, and NAT changes, demonstrating strong knowledge of routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and static routing. Pro‑actively review and maintain the client’s infrastructure, providing escalated support for other engineers on Palo Alto equipment and software. Implement and manage advanced security features such as URL Filtering, Network DLP, CASB, SSL Decryption, Wildfire, Threat Prevention, DNS Security, GlobalProtect, and Host Information Profiles (HIPs Policies). Participate actively in product strategy and planning, providing technical leadership to drive innovation and change within the team. Utilize Azure/DevOps pipelines to implement infrastructure as code (IaC) principles (nice‑to‑have, but encouraged). Maintain awareness and adherence to critical regulatory standards, including PCI and OSFI. Be available for on‑call duties and flexible hours to adjust to changing environments and project timelines. Qualifications 5 Years Experience with Palo Alto SASE: Hands‑on experience with Prisma Access design, configuration, and operation. 5 Years Experience with Cloud Security: Experience deploying and operating Virtual Scale Set Firewalls in Azure. 5+ Years Experience with Core Networking: Strong background in advanced networking: Routing/BGP/NAT changes, Policy‑Based Routing (PBR), Cisco routing/switching (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, SPT, TRUNKS, VLANs, Port‑Channel). Hold a PCNSA, PCNSE certification, or equivalent practical experience with Palo Alto Firewalls. In‑depth knowledge of networking topologies and protocols (e.g., MPLS, VRF, SIP, Traffic Shaping/QoS) and Palo Alto Command Line experience. Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and adept customer‑service skills. Must be a proactive team player and passionate about leading change. Nice to Haves Experience working in a large enterprise, preferably within the banking or financial services sector. Familiarity with IT Service Management systems (e.g., ServiceNow/SNOW). Scripting experience (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation. Direct experience with Azure/DevOps pipelines for infrastructure automation. Specific awareness of PCI and OSFI Standards.
