This role requires a full‑time on‑site presence in Yellowknife and will be assigned to the weekend web shift, reporting to the Senior Digital Producer. Your Role You have keen news judgment, high editorial standards and attention to detail. You are comfortable making independent editorial decisions in accordance with CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. You will work closely with reporters to develop and ensure their stories meet CBC’s principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity, while reflecting the interests and diversity of the North’s communities. Responsibilities Take the lead on breaking news in collaboration with the Senior Digital Producer. Write stories from reporters’ material and current‑affairs interviews as needed. Vet, copy‑edit, fact‑check, package and publish stories, ensuring high editorial standards. Provide feedback to reporters. Curate our digital lineup as needed. Monitor news developments to keep daily stories up to date. Craft compelling headlines that drive audience interest and engagement. Chase interviews and write original stories as required. Address typo reports and handle corrections and clarifications in consultation with the Senior Digital Producer. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in a fast‑paced, daily multi‑platform news environment. Strong journalistic and critical‑thinking skills, with knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and related legal and ethical issues. Ability to manage large volumes of fast‑moving information. Experience in copy editing digital content, including fact‑checking, legal vetting and packaging. Superior knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Knowledge of CBC style is an asset. Superior communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Strong connection to, or understanding of, the communities served in the North, with a nuanced appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required. Possession of a valid driver’s licence and a driving record that meets CBC/Radio‑Canada’s insurance requirements. University degree in journalism or equivalent, with a minimum of five years of journalism experience. Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing. Background Check A mandatory criminal record check. Other background checks may be conducted based on operational requirements.
