Remote Freelance Interpreter (English/Ojibway [Ojibwa]) Pay range: CA$20.00–CA$25.00 per hour. The actual pay will be based on your skills and experience. As a freelance interpreter with MCIS Language Solutions, you will provide essential spoken interpretation services in community settings such as hospitals, police stations, tribunal hearings, schools, and more. Your primary role is to facilitate clear and accurate communication between English and Ojibway speakers, ensuring individuals with limited language proficiency have access to vital services. Key Responsibilities Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Ojibway in high‑pressure environments such as healthcare and legal situations. Demonstrate cultural awareness when working with diverse communities, ensuring meaning and tone are faithfully conveyed while respecting cultural nuances. Read and orally translate written materials, such as application forms, medical records, or legal documents, as needed. Support vulnerable populations by breaking down linguistic barriers in crucial interactions, helping individuals navigate systems like healthcare, law enforcement, and social services. Travel to assignment locations as required; access assignments via car, public transportation, or other means. Handle remote interpretation assignments over phone or video, offering flexibility to work from home when applicable. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality when interpreting sensitive information. Requirements Fluency in English and Ojibway (both written and spoken) is required. Strong reading proficiency for accurate oral translation of written documents. Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, patience, and a commitment to service. Reliable transportation for travel to different locations. Legal entitlement to work in Canada. Training and Support New interpreters must complete a free online training module before starting work. Experienced interpreters with community‑interpreting certification are highly valued.
