Assistant Manager (AM) Working at Home Depot allows you to be yourself while contributing to something greater. The AM is responsible for providing effective leadership and support for all operational areas within a high-volume Direct Fulfilment Center (DFC) that will see aggressive growth and development over the next five years. Reporting to the General Manager, the AM will be responsible for all day-to-day operational functions, including inbound and outbound operations, order and labour planning, and other tasks related to building operations and associate safety. The AM collaborates with the General Manager and all DFC leadership team members to develop and cascade the DFC’s vision, mission, and operational strategies to ensure the achievement of all key performance objectives and Service Level Agreements (SLA). The AM is responsible for building a high-performance work culture that consistently delivers exceptional customer service in a safe and efficient manner, driving continuous improvement by engaging teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities in people, service, and cost. Position Responsibilities Provide support through the evaluation of operational effectiveness, recommending and implementing alternative work methods, procedures, controls, and staffing models to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of products. Lead associates to anticipate and solve problems and plan for upcoming events, seasonal changes, etc. Ensure the DFC layout is slotted and configured for maximum efficiency as seasonality and flow needs require. Read and interpret operational and financial reporting to determine and monitor problem areas and create action plans. Provide recommendations to the General Manager while working with the DC’s financial team, operational teams, and all people and services related to site objectives with continual improvement in mind. Ensure efficient use of operational assets such as warehouse management system(s) and related equipment such as material handling equipment, RF scanners, and tablets. Ensure inventory is received timely and efficiently and flows safely through the DC operation. Coach, train, and develop the management team informally and through formal training programs, providing both informal (e.g. on-floor coaching) and formal (e.g. written evaluation) job performance feedback. Foster a “great place to work” attitude through open, honest leadership and communication guided by Home Depot values. Ensure a safe work culture by following Home Depot safety policies and procedures; monitor DC safety, physical security, and operational metrics daily, weekly, and monthly; enforce safety policies and procedures; serve as a safety role model; hold associates to a high safety standard. Demonstrate responsible, ethical, and honest behavior while consistently leading by example; model the desired values of Home Depot. Champion and create a customer-focused environment in which excellent service is provided to all customers, building trusting relationships with customers and removing departmental barriers. React quickly and appropriately to problems and engage in joint problem solving across departmental boundaries; follow up in a timely manner to ensure issues are addressed to the customer’s satisfaction. Motivate self and others to accomplish important objectives; create a sense of urgency and hold self and the team accountable for their performance. Inspire and influence others by openly sharing information; communicate clearly and concisely with all audiences; keep others informed and listen carefully to input and feedback. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Home Depot business and how actions affect the success of the organization; use knowledge to make effective decisions. Seek knowledge about strengths and weaknesses of self and associates; provide growth opportunities and leverage resources to help others learn and develop. Maintain a positive attitude during high levels of stress and ambiguity; remain calm and composed while working with others to determine critical priorities for the team. Additional duties as assigned by Distribution Centre Management. Knowledge/Experience Required Must fulfill minimum time-in-position (1 year) and performance management code requirements (M+). Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business or Engineering preferred. PLog or CITT designation would be an asset. Minimum of 3 years of experience managing distribution operations preferably in the retail, consumer or electronic commerce sectors. Strong analytical, statistical analysis, problem solving skills and team building skills. Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage large workload, competing demands, and a fast-paced environment. Minimum of 3 years Warehouse Management System Experience. Experience with SAP ERP and SAP eWMS systems – a definite asset. Previous experience managing one or more new start‑up operations – a definite asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and working knowledge of Access and Project Management. Ability to work flexible shifts and hours, including weekends and holidays. Typically requires overnight travel up to 5% of the time. #J-18808-Ljbffr
