Position Summary As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will lead the Finance function of BCIHS and ensure that financial systems and practices align with the mission to provide safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing for Indigenous communities. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and the Finance & Audit Committee, guiding the organization through significant growth, financial transformation, and long-term sustainability. You will strengthen financial governance, embed GAAP compliance across departments, and steward resources with transparency and integrity. By modernizing systems, streamlining processes, and implementing automation, you will enable BCIHS to scale effectively and manage increasing organizational complexity. As a servant leader, you will mentor and develop the Finance team, build organizational capacity, and prepare for succession to support long-term resilience. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will partner closely with the CEO, senior leadership, and the Board to assess and drive financial performance against both annual budgets and long‑term strategies. You will lead a transformation agenda that modernizes financial systems, improves data integrity, and streamlines policies and processes. Your ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights will support informed decision‑making and strengthen risk management across the organization. You will oversee all accounting, reporting, and audit functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. This includes managing cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and investment activities to optimize resources, while maintaining strong relationships with banks, auditors, tax advisors, and funding partners. A key priority will be cleaning up and standardizing financial policies and processes, ensuring clarity, efficiency, and alignment with best practices. As a servant leader, you will mentor and inspire a high‑performing Finance and Land Development team, providing coaching and guidance to build capability, accountability, and collaboration. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, supporting cross‑departmental collaboration to strengthen operational excellence. Your leadership will extend to supporting the Board through timely, accurate, and comprehensive financial reporting, and provide strategic advice to the Finance & Audit Committee on trends, forecasts, and organizational risks. You will also play a central role in budgeting and planning, developing annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with senior leadership, and establishing measurable performance targets. By aligning budgeting processes with the strategic plan, you will ensure that resources are allocated to support organizational priorities. In addition, you will build and maintain strong external relationships with partners such as BC Housing, the Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA), auditors, CRA, and government stakeholders, advancing BCIHS’s mission and financial stability. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will hold a CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) and a post‑secondary degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. A master’s degree such as an MBA or MPA is considered an asset. You will bring at least 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including five years in a senior management role overseeing finance, accounting, and operations. Experience leading organizational transformation, implementing automation, and modernizing financial systems is essential, as is a proven track record of hands‑on leadership and team mentorship. You will be adept at translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights, and skilled in guiding teams through transformation and modernization. A deep understanding of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, audit management, and risk assessment is required, along with strong knowledge of financial software systems and automation tools. Experience with Yardi is a strong asset, as this role will be key in supporting deeper implementation of the platform. Exceptional communication skills are critical, as you will regularly present financial information to diverse audiences, including the Board, funders, and Indigenous communities. This role is ideal for a leader who combines technical expertise with servant leadership, and who is committed to building modern, streamlined financial systems while fostering a healthy workplace culture. Experience in the non‑profit, Indigenous, or social housing sectors is an asset, and a strong understanding of Indigenous culture, practices, and the impacts of historical injustices will be valued.
