The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project (RCHRP) is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital\'s capacity, beds, and services.New WestminsterNew Westminster is known for its waterfront views along the Fraser River, located on the north side of the Fraser River and bordering several municipalities in the Greater Vancouver region.BenefitsComprehensive, 100% Employer-Paid BenefitsGenerous Vacation Time: up to four weeksBenefit Portability: transfer benefits from another HEABC employerImmediate Pension Enrollment: defined municipal pension plan from day oneMaternity Top-Up: 87% top-up during maternity leaveTransLink Pass Subsidy: 50% subsidy on TransLink passesAdditional employee discounts and perks availableResponsibilitiesOversees and coordinates delivery of direct patient/resident care after hours, on weekends and/or as assigned.Directs Patient Care Coordinators (PCCs) and/or Charge Nurses; coordinates patient/resident placement and discharge needs; assess bed utilization and flow; identify improvement opportunities.Liaises with the Access Coordinator and BC Bedline to facilitate transfers; resolve care issues and coordinate care.Assesses critical situations and decides on actions including bed utilization; liaises with Administrator on Call as required.Ensures appropriate resources, including staffing, are available to provide safe care; assesses workload and authorizes overtime as needed.Collaborates with Staffing Office to maintain optimal staffing levels and monitor overtime use.Interviews, selects and supervises staff; provides support to preceptors/preceptees; communicates performance information to management.Investigates and resolves staff issues per collective agreements and hospital policies; refers disciplinary issues as needed.Represents the unit in problem/conflict resolution with patients, families and staff; initiates corrective action and policy changes as needed.Monitors contingency staffing plans and communicates concerns to managers.Contributes to budget discussions and resource management; promotes continuous quality improvement and best practices.Promotes safe work practices and health and safety compliance; investigates incidents and takes corrective action.Participates in emergency preparedness and may act as incident commander as assigned.Collaborates with managers/educators to provide ongoing staff education and development.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor\'s Degree in Nursing from an approved School of Nursing. Five (5) years\' recent acute care experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory/administrative role, or equivalent.Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Skills and AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and evidence-based practiceKnowledge of health care disciplines and their rolesAbility to plan, organize and prioritize work in a changing environmentAbility to supervise, lead and provide directionAbility to teach and facilitate learning for staff and patients/familiesStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenCritical thinking, problem solving and conflict managementAbility to work with patients, families, the public and interdisciplinary teamsProficiency with related equipment and computer technologyPhysical capability to perform dutiesAbout Fraser HealthFraser Health is the heart of health care for over two million people in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
