p>The Royal is seeking a Psychiatrist candidate for the position of Clinical Director, Secure Treatment Unit, located in Brockville. The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG) is a fully affiliated teaching site for the University of Ottawa and provides clinical service, teaching, and research opportunities. p>
  • A 190-bed state-of-the-art mental health facility and one 96-bed facility (32 recovery beds and 64 long-term care beds) located in Ottawa, and;
  • The specialized mental health facility located in Brockville that has 161 inpatient beds (61 Forensic Treatment Unit, 100 Secure Treatment Unit)
  • A campus at Carlingwood which houses the Community Mental Health Program, with additional community-related clinics around the region, including Brockville and Ottawa;
  • Two satellite facilities, one in Arnprior and one in Kingston for the Operational Stress Injuries (OSI) Program. These facilities provide care for clients of Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC) and eligible members of the Canadian Forces (CF) and RCMP who have an OSI, and to their families.

    The STU is a unique facility that provides mental health care in the correctional system. The ROHCG has been contracted by the Ministry of the Solicitor General to provide clinical services at the facility. As such, any requested services or resources that are outside the contract must be approved by the Ministry. Integrated Forensic Program staff are responsible for the assessment, treatment, and day-to-day supervision of residents while the Ministry of the Solicitor General staff are responsible for the security and the overall operation of the building.

    Planning:
    • With the Director of Patient Care Services, plan Program/Service directions based on the ROHCG Mission and Mandate, and outcomes of Program evaluation.
    • Attend regularly scheduled ROHCG management meetings and Joint Management meetings with the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
    • Work in a manner that is conducive with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies, and procedures of The Royal.
    • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination-Free Workplace policy.
    Medical Human Resources:
    • Develop and assess the program’s medical service requirements for input into the Hospital’s overall medical human resource plan.
    • Monitor medical staff clinical performance and provide feedback as necessary.
    • Complete annual performance reviews on each physician in the Program.
    • Assist the Associate Chief (IFP) and Psychiatrist-in-Chief/Chief of Staff with physician recruitment to meet the medical staffing plan.
    Clinical Care Issues and Performance Appraisal:
    • Chair the STU Admissions and Discharge Committee in collaboration with the SolGen leadership team.
    • Participate in identifying the priorities for clinical staff training and development.
    • Support the Director of Patient Care Services as appropriate to ensure the regular monitoring of clinical competence performance for all staff.
    • Coordinate clinical and research activities within the Program in collaboration with IMHR and Research Unit Directors.
    • Follow up on physician complaints and ensure appropriate action and resolution.
    • Ability to perform duties as a multidisciplinary team in both clinical and administrative settings.
    • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) level A- is considered an asset.
