And that’s where you come in. Location Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid) Responsibilities Perform design work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages. Review engineering solutions and mentor other system engineers. Lead projects and product teams where required. Key Accountabilities Technical: Perform technical/engineering tasks to define application databases for software subsystems. Analyse and simulate as necessary to identify design feasibility. Prepare specialised signalling design skills covering principles, data requirements, block design, interlocking control tables, safe braking model, performance analysis and headway simulations, and application database design. Deliver project guideway application data, signal plan, crossover coordinates, track maps and guideway database to software groups. Ensure signalling design complies with applicable standards and principles. Analyse train characteristics and safety requirements to define the safe braking model and headway parameters. Convert customer requirements into conceptual designs and prepare documentation via analyses, simulations and trade‑off studies. Create or modify concepts to fulfil customer requirements, prepare requirement specifications, support bids and proposals, and present technical design and reports clearly to customers and management groups. Define or propose updates to processes and standards covering the work and its products. Interface and build strong working relationships with Software, Hardware and IVVQ groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in‑house and field test issues. Safety: Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount. Ensure that safety is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety‑related defects. Management: Mentor Signal Design Specialists and define their work, coach them, monitor progress and direct priorities. Propose work package estimates and descriptions based on project requirements. Lead technical discussions, present solutions and provide status reports to internal and external stakeholders. Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance delivery, cost and quality. Work closely with other Work Package Managers and the project team to ensure the system team has the necessary inputs and outputs. Key Requirements Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Systems, Electrical, Computer), Computer Science, or a closely related field. 6–10 years of experience in development of software‑based system applications. Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods, and tools. Knowledge of systems development life cycle. Senior level expertise in URS (Urban Rail Signalling) Systems (minimum 3–5 years on similar system complexity). Ability to act as a referent/coach on specialised engineering skills within the CBTC domain. Preferred Qualifications Experience in using DOORS, Polarion, Melody Advance, or other system design and requirement management tools. Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices. Experience developing databases for software development. Experience developing/reviewing test scenarios or procedures for database implementation. Understanding of tools used to create/verify data for safety‑critical systems. Knowledge of rail signalling. Experience in Work Package Management and systems engineering expertise. Experience mentoring other engineers. Strong planning and organisational skills. Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
