Operating in a culture of cooperation and collaboration, we achieve our goals and objectives based on values of student-focused solutions, integrity of academic records and continuous innovative improvements.Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Academic Standards & Petitions, the Academic Standards and Petitions Coordinator provides excellent service to students, instructors and staff related to petitions and appeals by processing petitions and appeals submitted to U of T Mississauga. The Coordinator supports discretionary decision-making and consideration for students presenting exceptional circumstances.The Academic Standards and Petitions Coordinator works under the delegated authority of the Committee on Standing to assess and decide whether to grant or refuse petitions submitted to the Office of the Registrar from undergraduate students. This is done through timely resolution of petitions and provision of helpful information to students, including recommendations and referrals to student supports or the development of comprehensive academic plans. The Coordinator escalates any unusual cases to the Assistant Registrar, Academic Standards & Petitions or recommends for inclusion on the Committee on Standing agenda, and will at times serve as secretary to the Committee on Standing.The Academic Standards and Petitions Coordinator serves as a resource regarding the petitions process and decision-making, and works closely with the Assistant Registrar, Academic Standards & Petitions on enhancements to process, or re-visioning of decision-making principles in light of the constantly evolving student experience and student support.Your responsibilities will includeAssessing petitions and/or appeals and determining which claim(s) can be resolved immediately and which requires committee reviewDetermining the outcome of petitions and/or appeals cases not assigned to committees for further reviewApplying established standards when administering a process for consistent evaluation of applicationsAdvising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessaryAdvising contacts on the interpretation of petitions and/or appeals rules and policiesResponding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriateTracking and monitoring petitions and/or appeals requestsServing as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidanceEssential QualificationsBachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and educationMinimum four (4) years' experience in a student services university environmentExperience in providing registrarial or academic advising student servicesExperience working collaboratively with advisors, administrators and instructors/faculty to provide student service and academic supportExperience working with students under emotional stressExperience in the application of university policy with discretionary judgement in processing student casesExcellent written and oral communication skillsStrong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and ROSI/ACORNKnowledge and understanding of university and divisional academic policies and procedures related to course offerings and petitionsExcellent analytical, organizational and administrative skills with the ability to deal with a heavy work-loadCommitment to quality service and ability to work with students who are under stressAbility to work independently with minimal supervision on matters requiring confidentiality, tact, discretion and good judgementTo be successful in this role you will beAdaptableDiplomaticOrganizedProblem solverResourcefulTeam playerClosing Date: 11/27/2025, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - TermSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 12 -- $81,312. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $103,986.
