Your Opportunity Stantec’s Electrical team is hiring an Electrical Power Engineer to join our growing team. A background in mining or heavy industrial and processing sectors is preferred. The successful candidate would primarily be supporting mining work, with the opportunity to support projects across all of Energy & Resources. This role is for a full- time position. Your Key Responsibilities The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary team of design and engineering professionals to deliver projects. You will be a key member of the electrical team working with various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects. You will be responsible for applying engineering knowledge and professional judgement acquired through experience to plan, size, evaluate, select, and specify electrical systems in accordance with relevant codes, standards and industry best practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include conducting field investigations, liaising with clients, carrying out detailed planning studies, preparing design calculations, authoring technical reports, delivering presentations to stakeholders, leading the development of construction packages (drawings and technical specifications), estimating construction costs, monitoring and supporting construction, participating in commissioning, and contributing to business development activities. You should be capable of working independently with minimal supervision and with a reflective mindset and a willingness to challenge both personal and teamwork. Safety is a core value for Stantec. You will provide clients with engineering support to meet their needs and incorporate client suggestions for future requirements in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. This includes attending client meetings, which may at times be remote, as well as corresponding directly with the client. Act as an Engineer-of-Record for projects and/or project components. You will regularly interface with other disciplines and departments to execute projects. You will be responsible for the review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issuance to clients. You will learn and work within Stantec's quality control guidelines. As a member of the electrical team, your primary duties will include: Power system design and analysis in accordance with applicable codes for surface and underground mining operations. Incorporation of innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate considering constructability and economics. Completion of fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests. Preparation of quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables. Development and completion of power systems analysis models using ETAP, EasyPower and/or SKM. Report project progression updates and/or issues to Lead Designers or Project Managers. Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel). Your Capabilities and Credentials Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. Self-starter, with the ability to handle change and work with minimal supervision. You must be a contemplative person who is willing to challenge your own work as well as the work of those around you. Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations. Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere. Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering/construction projects with a consulting firm or Owner’s team is an asset. Demonstrated leadership skills and project engineering experience. Lead the preparation and coordination of electrical construction drawings, such as: Single line diagrams (SLDs) Power and Lighting Plans Grounding and Lightning Protection Plans Elevations Wiring diagrams Motor control schematics Riser diagrams Installation details Schedules (panel schedules, cable schedules, etc.) Completing inspections and condition assessments for electrical and communications infrastructure (this may include climbing ladders and walking / standing for extended periods of time). Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel). Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. Professional Engineering license is required. 5+ years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
