You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of critical database systems in production and development environments. This role requires deep expertise in PostgreSQL internals, high availability strategies, query optimization, and automation.You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of our database infrastructure.Your responsibilities:Design, implement, and manage PostgreSQL clusters in production and non-production environments (on prem)Build high-scale data pipelines and data infrastructure for migrating from other data sources such as ArangoDB and CockroachDB to PostgreSQLEnsure high availability and disaster recovery using tools availableMonitor and tune database performance, including query optimization, index tuning, and vacuum strategiesAutomate database operations using scripting (Bash, Python) and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Ansible)Manage database security, user roles, access controls, and encryptionPlan and perform database upgrades, migrations, and patching with minimal downtimeMaintain backup and recovery strategies and test them regularly for effectivenessTroubleshoot complex database issues related to locks, replication lag, corruption, and system resourcesWrite and maintain clear documentation on database standards, procedures, and architectureMonitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and scalabilityPerform database backups, restores, and disaster recovery proceduresDevelop and maintain database security protocols, ensuring data privacy and integrityProvide support and guidance to developers and other team members regarding database-related topicsParticipate in capacity planning and performance tuning activitiesStay updated with emerging database technologies and best practices, recommending improvements to enhance system performance and efficiencyAbout You:5+ years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in high-availability, mission-critical environmentsProven experience as a Database Administrator, managing PostGresSQL databasesDeep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, including WAL, VACUUM, query planner, and extensions (e.g., PostGIS, pg_partman, pg_stat_statements)Strong understanding of database concepts, principles, and best practicesProficient in writing and optimizing database queriesExperience with database performance tuning and optimization techniquesFamiliarity with backup and recovery procedures, replication, and high availability strategiesSolid understanding of database security and access controlExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailStrong communication and collaboration abilities, working effectively within a team environmentNice to Haves:Experience with multi-tenant or large-scale database architecturesExposure to MS SQL Server, Kafka, Arango, CockroachFamiliarity with Kubernetes and running PostgreSQL in containers or with operatorsRelevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, PostgreSQL Certified Engineer) are a plusCompensation:Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia’s pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background. The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values.
