The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert assistance, professional and strategic advice to Ontario Tech researchers in the preparation of research grant applications and management of funded research projects/programs. Flexibility, professionalism, and a team approach is necessary to work effectively with the university community and external stakeholders to advance research opportunities and to maximize research funding. Nature of Work Reporting to the Manager of Grants and Funding Programs, Office of Research Services, this position provides a broad range of support to facilitate the development and management of research activities at the University. The Grants Officer will identify, promote, and manage sponsored research funding opportunities for members of the research community. This position will support grant applications across all six faculties. The Grants Officer offers a high level of customer service in a fast-paced, deadline-driven administrative unit. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Grants Facilitation team, with other administrative units and with researchers, providing timely quality service to increase the funding performance and reputation of Ontario Tech as a research-intensive institution. Responsibilities/Accountabilities Facilitating external grant application submissions, including operating grants, institutional grants, research chairs and awards. Activities include liaising with funding agencies and ensuring granting agency requirements are met; drafting institutional sections (as appropriate); reviewing budgets; performing comprehensive, administrative and editorial reviews of applications; liaising with other units at Ontario Tech, or external parties as needed; ensuring compliance with granting agencies and University research policies and procedures. Support the non-financial post-award management of research projects. Meet with faculty to discuss research interests and specific funding opportunities. Liaise with Funding Sponsors in relation to funding opportunities, policies and procedures. Support internal funding competitions, including call for applications, supporting internal review committee and dissemination of results. Assist with other office activities as required. Required Skills Knowledge of research funding programs, policies, procedures, and processes. Experience with writing, reviewing, and administering grants and awards considered an asset. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task, handle high volumes, meet deadlines and work well under pressure. Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to interact productively and professionally with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment. The ability to develop and deliver educational materials, workshops and seminars is required. Occasional travel may be required. Must have a solid understanding of the research and University environment. Education Completion of a University Program consisting of Four Academic Years or Equivalent. Masters’ or doctoral level degree strongly preferred. Verification of Academic credentials may be required. Required Experience Approximately 5 years' related experience, in a research administration or related environment.
