Job Description:The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise primarily for dam structures, hydropower facilities, and flood control structures, such as spillways, decant systems, overflow weirs, culverts, pump/lift stations, and other hydraulic structures. Responsibilities include design and analysis, preparing plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, site inspections, dam safety evaluations, risk analyses, minor construction observation, and project management. The role may require short-term, out-of-town assignments. Opportunities may also include working on renewable projects like wind turbine foundation design, mining, and industrial processing facilities.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)10 years of related work experienceProfessional Engineer (P. Eng) certification and PE license or the ability to obtain within one yearExperience with AutoCAD or Revit and structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCADStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with team members and clientsStrong technical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail, accuracy, and completenessInterest in leading and mentoring early-career engineersWillingness to travel and adjust personal schedule as neededValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordLegal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorshipKnowledge of Canadian Dam Association (CDA) dam safety guidelines and bulletinsAbility to travel to and work in the U.S.Preferred Qualifications:15+ years of related work experienceMaster's degree in civil or structural engineeringExperience in the consulting industryExperience performing dam safety reviews, audits, inspections, and structural stability analyses for hydraulic structuresFamiliarity with hydrotechnical, mechanical, and electrical aspects of hydropower operationsFamiliarity with hydraulic design of dam appurtenant structuresA hybrid work arrangement may be considered, involving split time between a Barr office and a home office. The position is based in Barr's Calgary or Saskatoon offices.Note: Some work locations may feature rough terrain and conditions typical of construction sites, including limited accessibility and moving machinery.
