Our client is a reputable construction firm specializing in high rise and Institutional, Commercial, and Industrial (ICI) projects in the Greater Vancouver Area. Job Description:

Position Overview: As the Chief Estimator for high rise and ICI projects, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase by providing accurate and competitive cost estimates for various projects. You will lead a team of estimators and collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure the successful completion of projects within budgetary constraints.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and manage the estimating team to develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for high rise and ICI projects, including but not limited to residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings.
  2. Analyze project documents, specifications, and drawings to understand project requirements and scope of work.
  3. Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and material pricing to determine project costs.
  4. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive bids and pricing for various project components.
  5. Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare detailed and organized estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  6. Review and analyze subcontractor proposals and negotiate pricing to ensure cost competitiveness.
  7. Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
  8. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required.
  9. Keep abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and material costs to ensure competitiveness in bidding strategies.
  10. Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry professionals to enhance bidding opportunities and procurement processes.
  11. Prepare and present detailed cost estimates, budgets, and proposals to senior management for review and approval.
  12. Collaborate with project management teams during the transition from pre-construction to construction phase to ensure accurate budgeting and cost control measures are implemented.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field. A combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered.
  2. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in construction estimating, with a focus on high rise and ICI projects.
  3. Proven leadership experience, with the ability to effectively manage and mentor a team of estimators.
  4. Proficiency in construction estimating software such as Bluebeam, Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools.
  5. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex project documents and specifications.
  6. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  7. Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes/regulations applicable to high rise and ICI projects in the Greater Vancouver Area.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) are preferred but not required.
  10. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites and attend meetings as needed.
