Sudbury, Ontario, Canada is one of the most geologically rich areas of the world. This northern city in the Canadian Shield boasts a 60-kilometre-long formation called the Sudbury basin, which is brimming with nickel, copper, cobalt, gold, silver, platinum and palladium deposits. It’s also been home to Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations (Sudbury INO) since 1929. Our Sudbury operations include exploration, underground mines, a mill and a smelter, and Onaping Depth, a deep mine project at Craig Mine, all located in this basin. We currently employ more than 1,200 permanent employees and support another 1,200 contractors.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Cost Lead to join our Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a Three Year Contract position.

Duties and Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Senior Project Cost Lead (PCL) is responsible for overseeing the preparation and management of project baselines (scope, cost and schedule), as well as monitoring and reporting on project performance and approved changes throughout. The PCL will oversee the delivery of these services utilizing a combination of Glencore and engineering provided resources and systems. The PCL assures best practices are applied to the project, as appropriate, and recommends changes where required.

The PCL manages the resources allocated to the Project by leading and directing indirect reports so that they are motivated and have access to the required tools and information in order to meet the work objectives and have an understanding of what is expected of them and have the necessary skills to execute the requirements. The PCL also identifies training and development requirements for direct and indirect reports and ensures skills development takes place.

This position has a direct impact on the short and long-term outcome of the project by leading the development and implementation of world-class cost control processes and tools to support project budget management through the various study phases (i.e. Venture; Scoping; Pre-Feasibility; etc.) through to Construction and Handover.

About You

It is essential that the incumbent is business oriented, customer-focused and has a good working relationship with senior management and site personnel. This position requires strong leadership, negotiation and interpersonal skills. The incumbent works with minimal direction/supervision and functions under broad administrative direction from Project Controls Manager, with links to other key groups within the organization such as the Sudbury Finance Director and employees, the local and wider Procurement group and Nickel Capital Control Group and Project Directors.

Education

The position requires a university degree in business administration/finance or engineering, along with a recognized Project Management certificate (ex. PMP)and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including project management cost control experience, preferably in mining or heavy industry.

The incumbent must be proficient in the use of PRISM G2, PRIMAVERA P6, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, etc.). SAP experience would be an asset.

Strong managerial and leadership skills, business and customer service orientation is essential. Excellent communication, analytical thinking and organizational skills are required. Proven negotiation and influencing skills are required as are the ability to identify, recommend and implement cost effective efficiencies to improve overall operational performance.
