Full Job Description

Canadian Flatbeds is a leading trucking company specializing in flatbeds. We pride ourselves on our commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our finance team and contribute to our continued growth and success. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting functions within the company. This role requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices, excellent analytical skills, and experience in the trucking or transportation industry.

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently handle month end closing.
  • Track and maintain lease, fixed assets schedules & depreciation calculations.
  • Reconcile key accounts, including bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Preparation of sales taxes, WSIB, IFTA & carbon taxes.
  • Provide support for internal and external audits, including preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Performing other accounting duties and supporting junior staff as required or assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including industry specific requirements.
  • Other job duties related to accounting as required.

Requirements and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification or working towards is preferred.
  • Strong reporting skills and financial data analysis.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the trucking or transportation industry.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (such as QuickBooks or NetSuite) and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting

Hours of Work

  • Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm from Milton office
  • Occasional weekend availability
