The Role:

Reporting to the AVP, Actuarial, the Actuarial Team Leader is responsible for using accepted actuarial practices to support stakeholder’s pricing strategies by ensuring rate adequacy and equity and risk management strategies by quantifying and monitoring the risk selection and risk measurement.

The duties include leading and executing pricing and risk selection modelling, planning, developing and monitoring rating and modelling implementation, providing rate review consulting services, estimating and reporting the portfolio performance prospectively and retrospectively.

The successful candidate can expect to:

  • Provide guidance and support to the team in developing rating models for different line of business.
  • Collaborate with treaty underwriters to analyze reinsurance rate adequacy.
  • Validate data used in pricing/planning to ensure accuracy of the information.
  • Review performance against targets, perform root cause analysis and provide recommendations for action to address the underlying issues.
  • Use catastrophe models to support decision making
  • Develop and review rate monitoring processes and track technical rate deviations
  • Support the Finance department on the annual business plan and ORSA process through developing and estimating short term and long-term loss projections ensuring consistent models and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Claims and Finance departments to estimate the impacts arising from reserving practice changes or regulatory reforms.
  • Develop and create profitability reports for business segments.
  • Research external benchmarks for dealing with low credibility lines.

Your Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics and Statistics is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in Property and Casualty actuarial field, with a minimum of 3 years in ratemaking.
  • Completion of ACAS designation
  • Prior experience in Reinsurance is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) along with exceptional interpersonal skills to develop deep-rooted relationships, influence change and exhibit a collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize competing demands and projects.
  • Strong proficiency in spreadsheet software, and database query software
  • Prior experience using CAT models is preferred.
