Blackline Safety is hiring a Firmware Team Lead to join our Calgary, AB based team. Reporting to the Firmware Development Director, the Team Lead develops firmware modules/components, designs and leads the implementation process of new modules and provides support for the team’s overall work. Daily responsibilities include being a contact point to support other departments within Blackline Safety by providing the right information as well as planning and driving projects to completion. The Technical Team Lead focuses on participating in defining new products and features, ensuring due diligence on safety critical features for example, gas detection.

Responsibilities:

Technical owner

  • Originally developed or taken ownership of firmware module/components: Gas Detection, User Interface and Bluetooth/BLE
  • Be a source of information and contact point for other groups like Hardware, Software, UX and QA: answer questions, triage issues, redirect to the right resource
  • Ensure due diligence on safety critical features like gas detection

Project engineer

  • Design and lead the implementation of new modules
  • Plan and drive the completion of projects
  • Participate in defining new features and products

 Team supporter and process contributor

  • Peer review the team's work.
  • Advocate and enforce code quality
  • Initiate and guide discussions to solve problems
  • Bring new team members up to speed
  • Identify and address friction points in the process to make it a better work experience for the team 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • Experience using C/C++ in an embedded environment
  • Experience working with an embedded RTOS
  • Experience writing low level drivers
  • Object Oriented Design and Development experience
