This is a full-time position, one year term, with 37.5 hours a week (shifts may vary with evenings and weekends)

Wage: $25 an hour. Federal and provincial tax, CPP and EI are deducted at source. This position will be paid bi-weekly according to the organization?s established pay schedule. Vacation pay is accumulated at 4% of each pay period.

The Women?s Resource Centre provides programs, services, and counselling on issues affecting women and children, including family violence while encouraging respect, diversity, and equality with a feminist perspective. The Women?s Resource Centre is an organization dedicated to providing support, empowerment and mentoring for all women and their families.

- Provide individual and group, client-centered, trauma-informed counselling and advocacy to women, youth, and children who are affected by family/domestic violence

- Create a respectful, welcoming, non-judgmental environment and offer this to the client as well as the community at large

- Assess clients who are affected by domestic violence for risk (both physically and emotionally), identify interventions, access/advocate to partner agencies as required, implement, plan, and encourage regular evaluation of the goals

- Design/organize and facilitate support groups which focus on domestic violence

- Participate in training, workshops, presentations as deemed important by Directors of Counselling and Advocacy and Director of Operations

- Provide education about domestic violence to everyone affected by the trauma, such as parents, children, friends, and partner agencies

What you?ll bring to The WRC

- Post-secondary education in counselling, social work, health or social science field, combined with counselling experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered 

- Excellent knowledge of theories and current research of family/domestic violence, sexual abuse, trauma and recovery, and related issues 

- Excellent knowledge of theories of family/domestic violence from a feminist, multicultural, anti-racist, anti-oppression perspective 

- Experience working with vulnerable populations with a trauma-informed approach 

- Ability to deliver brief as well as and long-term counselling for individuals and groups

- Computer knowledge, written and verbal communication skills, time management and organizational skills
