Accounts Payable Manager

LOCATION: Barrie, Ontario

WORK ENVIRONMENT: In-Office

TYPE: Permanent, Full-time, Monday-Friday

SUMMARY:

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for areas relating to accounts payable processing and financial reporting. This includes maintaining and complying with accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements preparation. The Accounts Payable Manager supervises six accounts payable team members and is responsible for managing the team to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including accounts payable processing, general ledger preparation, accurate preparation of monthly financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, operational analysis and completion of working papers for branches across North America.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Post-Secondary Advanced Diploma or Degree in Finance, Accounting, a related program OR equivalent experience
  • CPA Designation is an asset

Experience:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite with exceptional Excel skills
  • Experience working with a fully integrated ERP system or accounting software
  • 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role within a finance team

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise accounts payable associates and provide training to new hires
  • Ensure accounts payable team is knowledgeable and adheres to JJE Accounting and Financial policies
  • Ensure compliance with invoice approval processes, established procedures and timelines
  • Monitor payables. Liaise with various departments to address approval delays
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Oversee all AP activity and review work for accuracy, including oversight on payment processing
  • Review and sign off on bank reconciliations
  • Maintain relationships with vendors by responding timely to queries and escalating as needed to support JJE
  • Conduct required month-end tasks including preparation and review of lead sheets, accrual approvals, and expense analysis. Use judgement to assess results, and identify risks of incomplete or inaccurate information.
  • Provide annual performance reviews to the accounts payable team, setting goals and development plans
  • Handle personnel issues relating to conflict management, absenteeism and performance issues
  • Champion JJE values and foster a strong, positive team environment with the accounts payable team through regular meetings and communications
  • Other Accounting assignments as required

  • Work in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation/regulations/safety policies
  • Report any known workplace hazard or safety violations
  • Cooperate with their workplace’s Safety Committee or health and safety representative
  • Use any safety equipment, protective devices or clothing required
  • Not remove or make ineffective any protective device required by the Company or by the regulations.
