Job Posting

The Instructional Designer role brings to JUMP Math an understanding of edtech, learning models, LMS/LRS management, SCORM/xAPI creation, and varied learning styles to create engaging learning processes, educational courses, and materials for students to meet their intended goals. The Instructional Designer shapes the learning process so that students can digest and retain the material in an effective manner. The position also works collaboratively with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) and other key Program Innovation department staff to enhance current curriculum, build out better assessment tools, and collect meaningful feedback to improve all steps of the design and development process.

Using various learning frameworks and methodologies, the Instructional Designer is responsible for creating new JUMP Math resources (print and digital) from existing core classroom materials that can be used in and outside of classrooms in various contexts such as tutoring programs and professional learning programs for educators, teachers, volunteers, parents, guardians and PreK-9 students. This role will assist JUMP Math to identify and establish new eLearning authoring tools and methodologies that will help with the distribution of our educational resources to a variety of stakeholders via various online outputs. The Instructional Designer will work with content provided by JUMP Math curriculum experts, the re-purposing of existing material, and the ongoing maintenance of a catalogue of learning materials and resources.

The Instructional Designer will also work closely with our LMS developers to integrate custom xAPI statements into existing and new student facing modules built in Storyline 360. This role will manage all aspects of exporting and uploading SCORM and xAPI to various platforms.

The position reports to the Director, Online Learning and works closely with the Founder of JUMP Math who are leading the development and delivery of new programs to support students, parents, and teachers.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) short term contract role for up to 6 months.

Location of Work: This role is fully remote.

Salary Range: $30/hour - $40/hour based on experience

Key Accountabilities:

  • Design and develop engaging and effective learning modules that align with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Work with subject matter experts to assess learning needs, analyze existing instructional material, and identify areas that require training development.
  • Create instructional and interactive materials, including but not limited to: e-learning courses, simulations, online games, assessment tools and quizzes, print resources, and multimedia presentations. All while ensuring ADA and WCAG compliance.
  • Utilize xAPI and SCORM to track and analyze learning experiences, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of learner behavior and performance, and ensure interoperability and seamless integration of content across various platforms.
  • Utilize various authoring and design tools to create interactive and visually appealing learning experiences; particularly Articulate Storyline 360, AI voice generation software (Murf.ai, WellSaid Labs, etc..), the Adobe Suite, and Vyond.
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods to design new learning models and revise established ones using collected feedback from assessment results and program reviews.
  • Train JUMP Math stakeholders on the use of our online learning systems and eLearning materials and troubleshoot technical problems reported by users.
  • Research new innovations in both learning design and education.

Skills:

  • xAPI: Understanding of xAPI to design and implement learning modules with advanced tracking and reporting capabilities.
  • xAPI & SCORM Development: Familiarity with exporting SCORM and xAPI packages for LMS upload. Understands the difference between the two and when is best to use one over the other.
  • Authoring Tool (Storyline 360): Expertise in using Articulate Storyline 360 to design interactive and engaging e-learning content. Including the creation of in-depth math exercises that may require custom code and multiple variables from time to time.
  • Other Creative Tools: Ability to generate and edit content in a range of different applications, including but not limited to: AI voice generation software (Murf.ai, WellSaid Labs, etc..), the Adobe Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc..), and Vyond.
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Ability to creatively address instructional design challenges revolving around an education and math focused organization and adapt to evolving technology and learning trends.
  • Needs Assessment: Work with SMEs to conduct needs assessments of various stakeholders to identify training and material needs. This includes understanding how various stakeholders (teachers, students, parents, etc..) react to different kinds of eLearning solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to collaborate with SMEs, stakeholders, and team members effectively.
  • Learning Methodologies: Strong understanding of utilizing and implementing learning methodologies and frameworks for children, youth, and adults.

Education and Experience (minimums):

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma preferably in Product Development, Computer Science, EdTech, Instructional Design and/or relevant field or equivalent work experience in the private and/or public sectors.
  • Three years minimum of previous experience in full life cycle project management specifically for e-Learning courses/content, products or programs (ideally in Kindergarten to Grade 12 but not required).
  • In-depth understanding of SCORM and xAPI files.
  • Experience with using various software/tools – specifically Storyline 360. Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, AI voice generation, and Vyond are assets.
  • Basic understanding of JavaScript and JSON to accommodate custom xAPI statements.
  • A Design Thinking approach and deep empathy with learners of all ages and abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Able to work remotely (Microsoft Teams, presenting online, video calls, teleconference, phone, etc.) and to mentor and collaborate.
  • Previous experience in teaching is highly desirable, but not required.
  • A passion for education and the possibilities of math education to change lives.
