The Director of Portfolio Management will lead and oversee the Portfolio Management unit for business banking credit within the International Business segment ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

  • Lead and drive a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Lead the development, modernization, and maintenance of portfolio management processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Improve existing reports and queries, setting standards for effective information presentation with a risk analysis perspective.
  • Liaise with different user groups to support the construction of specific queries and reports.
  • Collaborate with the Analytics Teams to develop and maintain dashboards for transparency on key compliance metrics.
  • Contribute to portfolio analysis for decision-making, considering risk management, portfolio management, and regulatory policies.
  • Monitor and report on portfolio performance across International Business Banking, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Ensure alignment in the monitoring process and controls by collaborating with Banking and Local Credit departments.
  • Mitigate risks associated with the portfolio, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues.
  • Ensure compliance with Scotiabank's internal regulations and guidelines.
Quality Assurance
  • Establish methodologies for sampling of various processes which will be consistent between countries.
  • Provide regional team members with clear communication on the consistent methodology and validate that it is being implemented as expected.
  • Provide strategic direction to address oversight and plans to ensure sampling methods are being executed to plan in a timely manner and are sustainable.
  • Address any challenges which regional team members may face obtaining information and engagement which would prevent the appropriate reviews.
  • Provide team members with training and oversight to be able to provide a consistent sampling and information recording.
  • Champion areas requiring attention and influence resourcing and budget which may be needed from time to time.
  • Guide regional team members to ensure timely resolution of challenges, negative trends or gaps in the credit and operational processes.
  • Coach the regional team with skills related to credit, ability to influence, time management, and priority setting.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled meetings with regional team members to share best practices.
  • Collaborate with various Partners such as Banking, Audit, Global Operational Risk, and Shared Services.
  • Work with Banking and GRM to identify areas of training needs for various credit processes.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values.
  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team.

  • Postgraduate education in business and/or relevant equivalents.
  • Excellent knowledge of Commercial Banking processes, products, and services.
  • Superior credit skills and sound judgment.
  • Strong understanding of AML, Higher Risk Client, and KYC requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and implement strategies, roadmaps, and business cases.
  • Superior risk assessment and analytical skills.
  • Superior accounting and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong coaching skills.
  • Good understanding of commercial management systems.
  • Superior industry knowledge.
