The HFR project is Canada's largest infrastructure project in generations.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President to oversee the rail, engineering, and integration activities of the project.

The role

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Project Management, this position requires a deep understanding of rail design and construction, exceptional analytical and collaboration abilities, ensuring the successful development and delivery of the project within scope, budget, and schedule.

The responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for all rail, engineering, and integration aspects of the project.
  • Oversee the engineering aspects of the railway system, focusing on tracks, signaling, power and electrical systems, and integration with rolling stock.
  • Build and lead a team of engineers, architects, and other professionals to ensure project goals are met within budget and schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Private Development Partner for the planning and design of the various components of the rail system, including tracks, signaling, communication systems, power supply, and control systems, to ensure seamless operation and optimal performance.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, budgets, schedules, and resource allocation strategies to meet project milestones and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards related to rail engineering and construction.
  • Develop and manage cost estimates for rail, engineering, and integration activities, including cost estimation, tracking, and control measures.
  • Identify potential project related risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to ensure that the rail, engineering, and integration work meets industry standards and project requirements.
  • Work closely with construction teams to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure construction activities align with design specifications.
  • Drive innovation and sustainability initiatives within the rail, engineering and integration scope, incorporating best practices and new technologies.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for project objectives.
  • Manage and mentor a team of professionals, providing guidance, support, and training to enhance their skills and capabilities. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.


The requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Professional engineer status (Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec is desirable).
  • An additional qualification in project management is desirable.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the design and development of linear projects.
  • Proven experience in project leadership roles, particularly in large-scale infrastructure projects such as rail, transportation, or construction projects.
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Being fluent in both Canadian official languages is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement.
