We are looking for a Communications and Engagement Coordinator to support our team on a range of initiatives. This role reports directly to the Director of Planning and will support the broader team to develop and implement fit-for-purpose communications and engagement strategies.

What you’ll do in the role:

As a member of the Planning team, the Communications and Engagement Coordinator will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative planning activities, strategic initiatives and development projects. This will include working with internal and external members of project teams to prepare and implement project-specific communications and engagement plans. This individual will also be responsible for supporting implementation of the communications and engagement programs for the company, including contributing to community outreach efforts and social media management.

Requirements for the role:

We are seeking an individual who is interested in learning, growing, and working on meaningful partnerships to support values-based planning and development work. Suitable candidates would be efficient at managing a variety of tasks in a fast-paced work environment, with an ability to take initiative and tackle new tasks and responsibilities in a start-up environment where there is opportunity to create and evolve processes.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations or a related discipline plus 3-5 years’ experience in a related field. An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will also be considered.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques relating to engagement and communications in all forms.
  • Proven track record of preparing a wide range of internal and external communications materials, including briefing notes, engagement summary reports, press releases, holding messages, and collateral for social media.
  • Experience designing, coordinating, and supporting in facilitated engagement sessions, including small and large group facilitation.
  • Familiarity with the process of managing consultant teams (e.g., budget management, invoice tracking, progress tracking).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to adapt communication style to suit a variety of audiences.
  • Proficient in MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

The following will be considered an asset:

  • Experience working with First Nations and/or Indigenous communities.
  • Previous experience in communications and engagement initiatives related to the topics of land development, housing, real estate, sustainability, or public policy.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite and/or other graphic design tools.
  • Foundational training from IAP2
