Working in a supported living home with a man who has developmental disabilities and mental illness.
In Your Role You Will
This front-line Disability Services Worker role assists persons served with behavior supports and personal care leading up to bedtime, during overnight hours and with morning routine. Will ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment and if needed, provide immediate support in crisis situations.
- Assist/support individuals to develop and achieve personal goals.
- Ensure individuals' basic needs are met, i.e., hygiene, personal care, life skills and social/occupational skills.
- Assist with household chores (meal prep, cleaning, etc.)
- Drive individual in your own vehicle (and stay as a support/participate) to medical appointments, recreational activities, community events, etc.
- Provide immediate support in crisis situations.
- Assist in the design, implementation & evaluation of ISPs, program specific policies & procedures.
- Connect the individual with their family, friends & community.
- Administer medication, first aid if/when necessary.
- Use computer program to write objective daily reports and document notes & observations regarding the client.
The Position
Front-line community disability services role supports the development of skills and independence to empower persons with developmental disabilities to pursue and fulfill their goals, objectives and aspirations.
12hr Day shifts (7am-7pm) working a 2 week rotation. Total 84 hours bi-weekly.
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
NOTE: This position requires CUPE union membership.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- Experience working with persons with a developmental disability &/or mental health concerns.
- Experience supporting personal care and aids to daily living (ADLs).
- High School Diploma. Ideally, post secondary education in a related human services field.
- MUST HAVE - Valid Class 5 Driver’s License; reliable vehicle, clean driver’s abstract and adequate insurance.
- Skills in coaching/assisting individuals in life skills, anger management, daily chores, self-help & problem solving, etc.
- Committed to philosophies and principles of community-based living for individuals in service.
- Good computer skills - as all files are electronic.
