Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller plays a key role within the Finance Team, providing support to the Controller and managing full accounting cycles. Here is an overview of the responsibilities and requirements associated with this position:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Corporate Accounting: Manage accounting activities for non-property entities, including recording daily journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations.

  • Financial Statements: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for non-property holding corporations.

  • Timely Reporting: Produce timely and accurate financial statements.

  • Payroll Reporting: Handle all aspects of payroll reporting.

  • Variance Analysis: Conduct variance analysis against budgets and forecasts on a quarterly basis.

  • Tax Compliance: Support tax compliance for non-property corporations.

  • Banking Transactions: Prepare corporate banking transactions and ensure proper documentation and recording.

  • Transaction Processing: Prepare and record daily transactions and manage month-end procedures.

  • Audit Support: Respond to queries and requests from external and internal auditors, and assist with year-end working paper files.

  • Cash and Investment Management: Maintain cash and investment flow for all corporations.

  • Tax Filing: Process GST/QST for non-property corporations.

  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the role by offering suggestions for efficiencies and improvements.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Commerce (B. Comm) or a CPA designation.

  • Skills and Traits: Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive, 'can-do' attitude.

  • Experience: Experience in full-cycle accounting, particularly in the fast-paced commercial real estate sector.

  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with real estate accounting software and other financial tools.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Reporting:
  • Reports to: Controller

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in various aspects of finance, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in accounting processes and financial reporting. Experience in commercial real estate is beneficial, as well as the ability to adapt and improve processes as needed.
