Who You Are:

Ground Effects is currently searching for a Design and Development Engineer to support our team in Windsor, Ontario. The Design and Development Engineer manages and controls design projects to continuously improve products. They ensure that products are high quality, reliable and meet APQP manual guidelines. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with good communication and organizational skills and would be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University, College Graduate, equivalent certification or 10 years of product design.
  • Background in a manufacturing environment and knowledge of production flow.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 requirements including experience with documentation and implementation.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the APQP process including FMEA and Control Plan development.
  • CAD experience and capabilities.
  • Must have and maintain an appropriate and valid Ontario Driver's license.
  • Must be able to legally enter the United States.
  • Computer skills in spreadsheet and word processing applications in a Windows environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and control design projects that result in a high quality and reliable product.
  • Ensure that all new designs follow a planned and structured approach which meets or exceeds the guidelines in the APQP manual.
  • Conduct timely design review/APQP meetings during all product launches to ensure objectives and deadlines are being met.
  • Manage and control blue print revisions and distribution.
  • Manage and control resources relating to design (outside services e.g. mold and model makers) while ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Maintain and manage computer aided design (CAD) system.
  • Provide documentation for all design meetings.
  • Set up product B.O.M.'s, builds and processes in ERP system.
  • Provide plant and production with sign off print package.
  • Provide input to the development of short- and long-term Research and Development and strategic plans.
  • Create and administer DFMEAs and provide input into the creation of Control Plans and PFMEAs.
  • Liaise with internal departments, customers and suppliers in matters relating to design of new product including design changes.
  • Provide input into continuous improvement meetings and maintain productive relationships with other departments.
  • Address customer concerns referred through 1-800 customer line. Document calls and follow up when and where required.
