Maskwa Environmental Consulting Ltd. (Maskwa) is a professional consulting firm based in Calgary, Alberta. We are searching for an Environmental Specialist living in Edmonton, Alberta (or surrounding area) with varying degrees of experience (i.e., entry level to senior level) to join our growing team.

We specialize in planning, permitting, strategy development and implementation, and environmental services. We provide senior level expertise to help our clients navigate through the complex maze of environmental regulations and regulatory compliance required for projects across the energy sector. Our clients are diverse and represent several markets including wind energy, solar energy, electrical transmission and distribution, battery energy storage, and oil and gas.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of work and educational experience in environmental science, natural resources, renewable resources, ecology, or similar sectors. The position requires a collaborative approach with Maskwa’s team of subject matter experts from our Environment, GIS, Planning & Permitting, Engagement and Regulatory teams on a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. The ideal candidate will have a great attitude, a willingness to grow as a professional, and can jump in to contribute to our continued growth. This role requires the ideal candidate be in the Edmonton region and being comfortable with teleworking.

  • University degree (e.g., B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in an environment focused program such as Environmental Science, Biology, or related discipline.
  • Related work experience.
  • Field survey experience assessing vegetation, wetlands, watercourses, wildlife, or soils.
  • Skills in data compilation, technical reporting, and written and oral communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Open-minded approach to participating in different types of projects, tasks and responsibilities associated with a small- to mid-sized growing business.
  • An unwavering commitment to safety and familiarity with safety requirements in the field and in the office.
  • A Class 5 driver’s licence.

The preferred candidate will have the following attributes to support our team and our clients:

  • Having a professional designation (e.g., P.Biol., P.Ag.) considered an asset.
  • Experience in consulting and energy sector developments.
  • Detail oriented and exceptional organization skills.
  • Willingness to positively collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment.

Core responsibilities

  • Actively participate in environmental field programs.
  • Proactively contribute/assist/support the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of Maskwa’s quality management in relation to environmental deliverables and work performed.
  • Support (or lead) project planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control/monitoring, billing oversight, and execution.
  • Support business development initiatives and help strengthen client relationships.
  • Contribute/collaborate generally to Maskwa projects and team members.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory applications.
  • Technical report writing and peer review of technical reports and deliverables.
