Abilities Claims Specialist
Halton Region
Monday to Friday 8am-4:30pm
$40-$50/hr


Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitates and promotes a safe return-to-work for employees through gathering and reviewing medical information and case investigation including documentation of case management plans and rationale.
  2. Communicates with key stakeholders, employees, and health care providers to adjudicate and manage return-to-work planning.
  3. Manages the transition to LTD and provides medical and summary case management to the LTD insurer to ensure a seamless transition.
  4. Monitors return-to-work plans and provides regular updates to all stakeholders.
  5. Collaborates with internal and external experts - physicians, ergonomists, safety specialists, external providers, WSIB, insurance companies.
  6. Expert knowledge of WSIB, OHRA, LTD, AODA policies and practices.
  7. Works closely with other members of the Employee Health Services and Human Resources teams.
  8. Enhances and champions disability management and return-to-work strategies and related programs and fosters a strong culture of employee health, safety and wellness.
  9. Liaises with the Health and Safety Specialist in regards to WSIB claims for work-related illness or injury.
  10. Advises/assists with payroll coding.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned, which are related to the major responsibilities of the job.

Qualifications/Skills:

  1. Post-secondary degree, diploma in related field or certificate in a Disability Management related field with an equivalent combination of work experience.
  2. Minimum three (3) years' experience in Disability Management and Return to Work, managing WSIB, STD, and LTD claims.
  3. Expertise in relevant legislation, e.g. WSIA, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code.
  4. Excellent problem-solving, time management, prioritization and conflict resolution skills.
  5. The ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external contacts.
  6. Strong computer skills in MS Office is required.
  7. Professional attitude, results-oriented, open to a changing environment.
  8. Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Strong customer service focus.
