Join Our Team

As part of our HR team, you’ll be an important representative of the organization, contributing to the administrative aspects of formulating, implementing, and controlling our human resources strategies, policies, and guidelines. This role is located on-site in our Dartmouth, NS office.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Oversee and maintain the recruitment process for hourly positions, including skilled trades.
  2. Screen resumes and forward potential candidates to hiring manager.
  3. Schedule and deliver new hire HR orientation and maintain orientation documentation checklist.
  4. Follow up during probation period to ensure probation forms are completed and returned to HR.
  5. Administration of all employee benefits programs, including maintaining employee data, responding to inquiries, investigating issues, and assisting with claims.
  6. Participate in Health and Wellness committee, plan, and execute H&W activities.
  7. Track and maintain attendance system, advising of progressive discipline.
  8. Complete status change forms as needed for new hires, promotions, wage changes, etc.
  9. Act as a backup for payroll as required.
  10. Prepare and distribute lay-off / recall notices for hourly employees as per the Collective Agreement.
  11. Maintain HRIS system with accurate data and maintain employee files, including training records.
  12. Responsible for control of HR documents, initiating change requests as required.
  13. Handle all incoming calls with professionalism, respond to all E-mail inquiries in a timely fashion, maintain strict confidentiality in dealing with privileged information, prioritizing workflow to respond to employee / company needs.
  14. Provide support within department as required.
  15. Complete projects as assigned.
What You Will Bring

Completion of a certificate program in Human Resource Management or equivalent work experience. 1 to 3 years' relevant experience, preferably in a unionized environment. Exceptional computer skills relating to MS Office, HRIS, payroll, etc. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in dealing with privileged information.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience supporting recruitment in multiple geographical locations is considered an asset.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, motivation, and excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Possess a professional demeanor and communicate with excellent verbal and written skills in English.
