PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Fleet Engineering, the Marine Engineering Specialist supports the smooth day to day operation of the Fleet Engineering Department. The incumbent provides timely and accurate administrative support in preparing plans, reports, spreadsheets, charts and presentations and administrates the ABS Enterprise Fleet Management System.

The primary job duties and responsibilities for the Marine Engineering Specialist & FMS Administrator includes but is not limited to the following:

· Assists to create annual maintenance plan to ensure the safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the fleet.

· Creates the winter work and major project management Director folder packages for vessel and terminal field operations.

· Produces grammatically correct and accurate reports, plans, spreadsheets, charts and presentation for the Fleet Engineering Department to use for internal and external communication and decision making.

· Maintains Fleet Engineering Department hard copy and electronic file structures. This includes and is not limited to equipment and ship information, certificates, and project documentation.

· Maintains all ship and terminal manual and drawing libraries at head office to professional standards.

· Coordinates and maintains supplier insurance documents to ensure that shore side contractors comply with OSTC requirements through direct contractor engagement.

· Monitors daily logs, fuel consumption, environmental performance and related key performance metrics. Reports concerns to Director of Fleet Engineering of any concerns to counter downtime due to breakdown and optimize company resources.

Fleet Management System (FMS) Administration Duties

· Will act as the “Super User” of the FMS and provides training to other system users as needed.

· Works with senior officers to update the ABS Fleet Management System ensuring that all records, certificates, and documents related to deck and engineering equipment, maintenance and employee access are uploaded and maintained.

· Consults parts manuals to enter complete part lists to FMS database for all company equipment ship and shore. Ensures equipment particulars are entered and correct.

· Consults equipment manuals to verify that maintenance requirements are observed for all ship and shore equipment. Update FMS accordingly.

· Monitors ABS Fleet Management system dashboard; identified overdue open jobs and facilitates internal communication with Senior Officers leading to timely completion of outstanding work within FMS.

· Supports field operations by pulling electronic drawings, documents, certificates, manuals and reference material and sourcing warehouse supplies in a timely manner.

· Works to perform frequent inventory physicals defining shore-based spares of regular and critical designation. This may include onboard ship inventory update assignments. Updates completed three to four times annually and reconciled within FMS.

· Identifies opportunities around repair or replacement of equipment under warranty. Acting to ensure equipment warranty manufacturers are held liability for replacement and repair costs.

· Monitor maintenance activity through FMS to satisfy management that work is carried out in a safe and effective manner consistent with internal policies, procedures, and guidelines. Resource shall work to assist Health and Safety Manager to apply or leverage use of JSA, hot work certificate, risk assessments and confined space access capability available in FMS to promote a safety-first culture through in house maintenance objectives.

· Complies with all company policies, procedures, legislation and ensures that confidentiality is respected and always maintained.

· Performs other duties as required by the Director of Fleet Engineering.

· Delivery service of critical parts from storage during and after work hours to all fleet vessels North and South is required as needed.

· Delivers equipment or items needed between all company managed properties as required.

· Two or more years of related experience.

· Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

· Experience in conducting basic research in regulatory or policy manuals and assembling information for management decision making would be an asset.

· Highly organized, effective at prioritizing work and problem solving.

· Strong technical aptitude which includes experience in databases; able to extract and manipulate data and develop spreadsheets for management information and decision making.

· Computer literate, applied experience in the use of MS Office Suite of products and database management. Accurate data entry.

· Excellent written and verbal English skills required.

· Requires a valid Class G Ontario licence or equivalent.

· Requires a valid passport, or equivalent, with the ability to travel internationally between the United States and Canada.

EFFORT – PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS

· Warehouse duties required that involve physical effort including, lifting, bending, twisting, crouching and crawling. Standing and walking for prolonger periods of time and may require use of ladders, forklift and personal protective equipment. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Computer and desk work, ability to sit, type and read a computer screen for prolonged periods.

WORKING CONDITIONS

· The position is at head office and the working environment can be fast paced and required remote conceptual thinking, analysis, problem solving.

· Due to the nature of the business as a seasonal 24/7 operation, the incumbent is required to be available by phone or email to support the operation of the vessels after hours on a regular basis. A regular Monday to Friday schedule, however, required to work weekends and evenings when required. Requires a Valid G Ontario licence or equivalent and is required to travel throughout Ontario and into the United States on occasion.

· Can be required to spend time on the vessels while in operation and on open water. Some noise and outdoor climate and temperature exposure on occasion, with proper personal protective equipment provided.
