Reporting directly to the Manager, Global Cargo Boarder Management, this incumbent will be responsible for launching new or revised customs mandates, resolving customs issues and providing guidance to ensure customs compliance. Acting as a SME, will support stations to understand and comply with the customs regulations as well as work diligently to mitigate and resolve customs non compliance and customs fines .

Responsibilities:
  • Lead investigations of customs compliance failures and work with stations on corrective actions and to mitigate customs fines by challenging Customs authorities when appropriate, if fines were assigned unfairly or inappropriately
  • Determine the redirection of customs fine payment to the appropriate source for example, to the station, to the GHA, customs messaging provider or to IT, depending on the results of their investigations
  • Participate on behalf of Air Canada Cargo in industry working groups and task forces in order to share knowledge add expertise, develop a strong industry network to leverage.
  • Launch new or revised customs mandates, coordinating activities with the station, IT, GHAs, the regulators, Communications, Training Procedures and Engineering teams.
  • Perform on site station Safety, Quality and Regulatory compliance audits as the lead auditor or the auditor to compare SOP with observed actions
  • Maintain the customs data base with new or revised requirements, messaging logistics, vendors, and escalation contacts.
  • Provide expertise and support to the Communications, Procedures, Training and Engineering teams.
  • Deliver ongoing support to the YYZ ACI Desk by ensuring they have the required technology, regulations, coaching and access to expertise
  • Provide content to the Procedures team regarding customs related initiatives for PUB, ACCLR and Advisory updates.
  • Provide content to the Marketing team for external communication regarding customs initiatives.
  • Maintain constant communication with Operation and Commercial teams regarding pending mandates, potential roadblocks, resolutions.
  • Ensure customs launch dates are respected, leverage internal and external contacts for support.
Safety First:
  • Ensure Safety, Security and Service standards are part of all Cargo agreements and monitored through Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Compliance with IOSA standards, SMS and other application authorities. Assure the good management of all Cargo Contracts. Where Audit activities have revealed. vulnerabilities, implement corrective measures to address root cause.
  • Allocate operations equipment, labour, financial resources, and policies for Air Canada to ensure effective safety and security of operations.
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of Cargo Operational experience with knowledge of Cargo Customs
  • Ability to effectively and simultaneously manage to completion a large volume of priorities.
  • Ability to simultaneously managing a high volume of priorities
  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft 365
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to function well in both unionized and management environments
  • Strong computer skills
  • Understanding risk assessment
