We are working alongside one of our clients to help them find a Compliance Officer. They are a growing international e-wallet and payment services provider, is looking for a leading Compliance Officer for its Canadian office, based in Toronto, to provide effective leadership and continued development to ensure its business processes and procedures adhere to all applicable laws, rules, and regulations and internal rules.


As the compliance specialist and subject matter expert, this position will be responsible for establishing standards and implementing procedures to ensure that the compliance programs are effective and efficient in identifying, preventing, detecting, and correcting non-compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and much more. This role is perfect someone looking to make their first step into a senior compliance role, ready for the next step in their career.


Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop, oversee and monitor the annual compliance work plan that reflects the company's unique characteristics, and periodically revise the plan in light of regulatory (FINTRAC) and organizational changes.
  • Implement strong controls and report to the board members on compliance work plan deviations in established plans.
  • Provide strategic direction to the management team on compliance subjects, regulatory frameworks, standards, internal policies and procedures, and prepare and present clear and concise compliance reports to the board members as required.
  • Identify, recruit, train and develop a talented Compliance team take the lead and manage strategic business functions related to compliance across the organization.
  • Lead the interaction with regulators and law enforcement agencies on compliance & financial crime prevention matters, leading the gathering of internal information in response to such requests.


Qualifications:


  • Experience as a senior officer in a compliance function with additional experience in leading the team would be a big advantage.
  • Experience interacting with, and showing knowledge of, regulatory bodies (FINTRAC) & enforcement agencies, especially in relation to SAR, FATCA & CRS reporting.
  • Specific experience within an Electronic Money or a Payment Institution will be considered an advantage.
  • Bachelor’s degree in either Law, Business Administration, Finance, or other related field.
  • Evidence of relevant certification for senior role in financial compliance or risk management from recognized bosies (ICA, ACAMS).
  • Strong knowledge of corporate governance principles, corporate finance, performance measures, and managerial best practices, capable to form, mentor, and manage efficient teams of all seniority levels.
  • Proactive, analytical, resourceful “out-of-the-box” attitude with critical problem-solving and strategic planning capabilities.
