Job Description This is an in‑office role located in Moncton, with flexibility for candidates in Fredericton and Saint John who can work in either of those cities. Objective of this role The primary purpose of the Business Development Partner (BDP) is to recruit, onboard, train, develop and coach advisors during their first four years. You’ll help these advisors establish their business, build holistic financial services practices—including life and health insurance and wealth products—and generate business results for the overall District. You’ll report to the District Manager (DM) and collaborate with district and regional teams. What will you do? Source candidates for the Sun Life advisor role through community contacts and other referral sources. Support candidates and ensure a positive onboarding experience, including licensing studies, market identification, business planning, and joint client appointments. Train and onboard new advisors and oversee successful implementation of their onboarding plan, including product knowledge, sales process, and pre‑ and post‑sales support. Develop advisor skills through coaching in prospecting, business development, cross‑selling opportunities, the sales cycle, and business management. Help advisors meet their financial and strategic objectives (e.g., sales growth, productivity, client engagement). Partner with head office Centre of Excellence teams to support advisors. Monitor and track advisor activities, analyze data, and provide insights into business practices. Ensure compliant operations, including required measures and activities. Ensure advisors are trained, licensed, registered, and follow defined product suitability reviews to meet regulatory obligations. Escalate client complaints and conduct advisor investigations. Maintain advisor conduct in line with the Advisor Agreement. Achieve recruiting and production metrics. Foster a positive district culture through events and recognition programs. Build community presence for Sun Life and local advisors through events, activities, and sponsorships. Required skills Business acumen, product knowledge (insurance and wealth), and understanding of the market, competition, and industry. Strong sales management and business development skills. Strong prospecting and recruitment skills. Strong mentoring, coaching, performance management, and influencing skills. Problem‑solving, analytical, and decision‑making skills. Strong communication (presentation, written, verbal) and relationship building skills. Ability to help advisors define and access their target market. Previous experience leading sales teams. Forward‑thinking, goal‑oriented focus on achieving targets. Strong working knowledge of the regulatory environment. Ability to manage a successful performance‑management process in a sales culture. Committed to ongoing personal and professional development. Qualification and educational requirements Minimum 2 years of related experience within the financial services industry. Must hold a valid Life Insurance Agent’s license in the province of the District. Must hold a valid Mutual Fund license or obtain it within the first 90 days. Must complete the Branch Manager’s Course Examination and become registered as a mutual fund branch manager with the relevant provincial securities commission within the first 6 months. Must be in good standing with applicable regulators. Proficiency with technologies such as Salesforce.com, financial planning software, and Microsoft applications. Assets Professional designation(s) in financial services. Previous experience in an advisor role. Prior people‑leadership experience. What’s in it for you? Sun Life offers a market‑competitive total compensation package, including a base salary and variable incentive. Eligible for a sales incentive plan with industry‑leading payout opportunities.
