Role Responsibilities

Research, analyze and prepare trade data, reports and/or briefings with recommendations for decision-makers on issues that can help inform strategic decisions by government and industry. Ensure coordination and integration of multi-unit, branch and division initiatives including trade and cross-jurisdictional policy analysis. Lead the development of strategic policy options and analysis to support key decisions in the trade space.  Support work of the branch related to program and service delivery, projects and initiatives related to key Alberta trade and export activities, and meetings, visits and engagements planned with foreign/national officials and other stakeholders.  Coordinate and advise work of PS3 level staff, providing guidance and instruction as required. Serve as acting manager and be supported with leadership opportunities and career development.  Facilitate strategic planning sessions and branch engagement. Develop ministerial briefing and decision materials and Cabinet Reports as required. 

Qualifications

Requirements:

University graduation degree (Economics, Public Administration, Business) or in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Directly related education or experience considered based on: 

1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 

1 year of experience for 1 year of education

The following knowledge or experiences are considered as assets:

Extensive problem solving, systems thinking, decision-making, relationship development and business communication skills.

Experience preparing and providing written reports, analysis, briefings notes, letters, and presentations.

Experience/knowledge in project management with the ability to lead projects and research. 

Effective communications skills (written and oral) to collaborate effectively with colleagues and with internal as well as external stakeholders.

Experience in, or understanding of, international trade and export promotion.

Knowledge of data, economic, statistics, cross-jurisdictional scanning.

Organization and prioritization skills to balance multiple ongoing projects at one time and ability to meet tight timelines.
