Reporting to the Supervisor, Digital Foundations and Operations, the Digital Infrastructure Specialist takes the lead in monitoring and performing frontline systems diagnostics as part of the Digital Services Foundation team and assist in problem resolution of AFSC's Technology Infrastructure in accordance with AFSC's best practices, thereby effectively providing key services to AFSC clients in a multi-provincial model. Coordinating with Digital Services department personnel for second and third tier support.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Provide on-call advice and assistance to users to resolve accurately assigned Service Desk calls within the agreed service levels and ensure call notes are accurate, complete, and updated daily.
  • Following infrastructure operations procedures for implementing changes into the network infrastructure environment, developing, and supporting installation/implementation, and recommending system changes and enhancements as required.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network products and services.
  • Install and configure network hardware and equipment including wiring, routers, switches, access points, UPSs and so on.
  • Assist with quality assurance for Infrastructure deliverables and project deliverables to be transitioned into baseline support and installation documentation, implementation plans to make changes to the infrastructure environment.
  • Contribute to problem root cause identification and the documentation of problems and related workarounds, thus ensuring the stable operation and efficient performance of company networks.
  • Complete and provide detailed work plans within Azure DevOps, time estimates for technical solutions and timely reporting and weekly status updates.
  • Conduct on premise and cloud management platform updates and improvements with focus on higher levels of automation on alerting.
  • Ensures that all alerts are acknowledged and addressed timely as well as performs tuning activities where needed and as directed. Communicates to newer team members what the management platforms are for.
  • Collaborate with business representatives on post maintenance validations and peers on processes, standards, best practices, efficiency improvements in a collaborating capacity.
  • Collaborating with other Digital Services team members, Infrastructure Operations Analysts, Database Analysts, and Digital Services Maintenance.
  • Establish connectivity and uptime service level agreements.

  • Good understanding and experience with Microsoft and Linux operating systems, certificate technology, DNS, NTFS permissions and latest versions of VMware virtualization technology.
  • Practical understanding of SAN Storage, networking technology - routing, subnets, UDP, TCP, IP, & VLANs.
  • Good understanding of campus and branch network technologies as well as software defined networking.
  • Experience with APC UPS backup solutions, recovery strategies and infrastructure, server configurations and application monitoring software.
  • Some experience with unified communication systems on premise as well as cloud based.
  • Understanding and/or experience with scripting skills using PowerShell, Linux scripting engines and supporting Java applications.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science or Technology.
  • 5 years of IT systems administrative experience.
  • Certifications specifically related to areas of expertise are highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a multi-vendor environment is considered a definite asset.

For those not meeting the minimum education, additional related work experience will be deemed equivalent. Proactive in continued professional and personal skill development is an ongoing expectation.
