Job Summary

The Engineering Master Data Expert is responsible for establishing processes and solutions for engineering master data capture to ensure the data is updated and integrated with different CN solutions. The position acts as a liaison between Engineering, Information and Technology (I&T), Transportation, Operating Practices, and internal and external stakeholders to implement changes to master data capture processes and solutions. Additionally, the role is accountable for training the Engineering Master Data Analyst on data capture procedures and maintaining knowledge. The incumbent works on improving current processes and solutions while defining future needs and processes. Moreover, this role handles complex Engineering cutover changes to ensure accurate reflection of work in the engineering master data and maintain process robustness for plant safety and regulatory compliance.

Main Responsibilities
  • Process and Procedure Design and Stakeholders Communication
    • Acquire in-depth knowledge of company processes and update them for optimal data accuracy
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine data capture methods
    • Work with Operating Practices and I&T to improve data capture processes
    • Write and update documents related to processes and data traceability
    • Ensure the Engineering Master Data Analyst and GIS teams adhere to established processes
    • Track asset category progress to meet CN policies and standards
    • Improve communication between engineering disciplines and teams for spatial data acquisition and updates
  • Business Requirements Management, Product Design for Capture and Technology Sourcing
    • Identify opportunities for engineering data capture
    • Define future engineering master data capture methods
    • Collaborate with projects and programs to validate business needs and align deliverables
    • Develop long-term strategies for GIS data maintenance
    • Assist in report development and interpretation for field team members
  • Perform Engineering Master Data Capture and Report
    • Lead complex cutover plans and ensure databases are updated
    • Update CN enterprise inventory databases and GIS systems
    • Analyze data from multiple sources to generate insights
    • Report on asset change progress and compliance with CN standards
    • Perform data queries and generate reports
    • Collaborate with project teams on Engineering activities
    • Foster collaboration and communication among teams for successful initiatives
Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available for overtime and weekend work when necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must handle tight deadlines, pressure, and stress. The position requires minimal travel within Canada and the United States.
