Mentorship Program & Strategy Implementation Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Mentorship Program & Strategy Implementation Intern will collaborate with the Research Operations & Academic Partnerships team to expand the existing I.M.P.A.C.T. (Intern Mentorship Program in AI & Cognitive Technology) Mentorship Program, set to launch in winter 2025. The intern will work closely with the external sales team from the mentorship platform Vector selects to configure the platform according to program requirements, as well as conduct user testing and make program recommendations. Reporting to the Specialist, Internships & Work Integrated Learning, you will also create program documentation and support the mentorship program in a lasting and meaningful way.

APPLIED INTERNSHIPS AT VECTOR

The applied internship program at Vector provides relevant, hands-on learning and work experience in machine learning and AI. During the paid internship, interns will have the opportunity to attend research, recruitment, and commercialization talks at Vector and connect with key stakeholders in the AI ecosystem. Applied internships may be full-time hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week) over the Fall academic term (September 9 - December 20, 2024) with an opportunity to continue over the Winter 2025 academic term. This initiative is designed to meet the criteria of a special program under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Research Operations & Academic Partnerships team to expand the existing I.M.P.A.C.T. Mentorship Program, which is set to launch in winter 2025;
  • Assist in configuring a mentorship platform, such as Qooper or PushFar, according to program requirements, as well as assist in the technical implementation of new features and improvements to the mentorship platform;
  • Plan and execute user testing sessions to gather feedback on the mentorship platform's usability, functionality, and overall user experience;
  • Analyze user feedback, and identify areas for improvement in the mentorship program and platform interface; make continual improvements for the expanded program launch in winter 2025;
  • Work closely with external sales associates to prioritize changes, address user-reported issues, and enhance the platform's performance;
  • Provide program documentation and training for users and administrators, including, but not limited to, written documentation and video tutorials. Chart major milestones and draft communications to users as part of project management; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • You are a self-identified Black or Indigenous student or postdoc (Indigenous ancestry or heritage - First Nations (status or non-status), Métis or Inuit) or a recent graduate.
  • You are in second year or higher, studying at a Canadian university or college, or a recent graduate within one semester of graduation. You are studying business or a related degree.
  • You are detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and you are comfortable working independently.
  • You are able to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with designers, developers, and other stakeholders.
  • You take a proactive approach to problem-solving and have a willingness to take initiative.

NICE TO HAVE

  • You are organized and efficient with strong problem-solving skills; experience in project management is considered an asset.
  • You have participated in a mentorship program in the past, such as through a previous role or in your current studies.
  • Familiarity with software implementation is considered an asset; familiarity with accessibility standards is considered an asset.
  • You are creative and enjoy collaborating within a small entrepreneurial environment that is results-driven.
  • You possess a positive attitude, integrity, a sense of humour, and bring a positive energy and outlook to a not-for-profit corporate culture.
  • You are motivated by continuous learning and the opportunity to make a difference and a real contribution to the AI ecosystem.
