Medical Laboratory Assistant required to assist in sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens in a laboratory setting.

Shared Health is a leading organization in Manitoba, responsible for planning and coordinating patient-centered clinical and preventive health services. The organization delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Under the supervision of the Charge Technologist, the Medical Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens
  • Performing basic routine procedures according to established protocols
  • Performing phlebotomies according to departmental policy
  • Maintaining a safe environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines
  • Ensuring compliance with quality assurance programs and maintaining standards put forth by Accreditation

Requirements:

  • Previous related experience preferred
  • Completed Grade 12 or equivalent, Manitoba Standards, is required
  • Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program is preferred
  • Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification preferred

Key qualifications and skills:

  • Windows computer environment required
  • Microsoft Office programs preferred
  • Medical terminology preferred
  • Sterile techniques and routine practices preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required in English
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Work under pressure
  • Maintains confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position
