Duties

Participating in the conduct of staying up to date on briefs and research on critical minerals related science-based issues, trends, industry-related initiatives, collecting data, performing assessments on discrete issues to define nature, scope and priority, and contributing to the resolution of issues and/or on-going research activities.

Conducting reviews of components of amended/new governmental critical minerals related science legislation/regulations/policies and/or Departmental/Sectoral strategic planning initiatives, assessing their impact internally/externally, developing draft documentation on impacts, recommending additional research or problem resolution strategies to supervisor.

Investigating critical minerals research sources, such as other government departments, scientific organizations, academic institutions or the private sector; analysing scientific findings, identifying discrepancies, and assessing the utility for integration into policy/planning documents.

Participating on internal/external working groups/task forces related to scientific policies/plans, contributing scientific input to developmental phases and final products, assisting in the resolution of problems respecting conflicting agendas/positions, and consulting with Departmental scientific community to obtain inputs and promote results consistent with Departmental/Sectoral objectives.

Assists in the conduct of specific program-related assessments/reviews/audits to verify conformity with Departmental standards, identifying instances on non-conformance and recommending remedial actions.

Providing information and advice to scientific professionals on the application of legislation/regulation/policies/best practices of government and/or Departmental planning criteria.

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post- secondary institution with acceptable specialization in mining, mineral processing, materials science, geology, chemistry, or some other science relevant to the position.

Experience

• Recent (within the last three years) professional experience in the field of mineral processing

• Professional experience in writing detailed reports and science-policy plain language summaries related to the duties of the position

• Experience in coordinating and monitoring progress toward project milestones related to the duties of the position

• Experience in database management related to the duties of the position
