Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada Salvation Army Full time

The Thrift Store Clerk provides customer service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the Supervisor in the maintenance of all store operations. They are responsible for accurate customer transactions, communicate with customers, and contribute to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurate completion of customer transactions
  • Provides product and store information to customers
  • Completes daily cash-out and sales receipt summaries and bank deposit documentation
  • Contributes to meeting store sales budgets
  • Contributes to the safety of staff and customers by performing tasks such as snow removal, cleaning, and maintaining store cleanliness

Product Handling:

  • Receive, sort, and price donations
  • Place priced product on floor racks and shelves
  • Remove product from and keep clean donation bin
  • Discard unusable and old product
  • Rotate floor product
  • Implements store layout plans
  • Contributes to inventory control by retrieving, sorting, and pricing
  • Protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring

Volunteers:

  • Work with Thrift Store volunteers and provide direction as required

Thrift Store Cleaning and Upkeep:

  • Assist in daily cleaning duties of the Thrift Store

Critical Relationship Management:

  • Directly reports to the Thrift store supervisor
  • Daily contact is with Thrift Store customers, staff, and Thrift Store Supervisor
  • Contact will also be required with Thrift Store volunteers on a daily basis
  • Occasional interaction with Manager of Operations

Working Conditions:

  • Flexible work hours
  • May involve stress when working with high-demand clients and during times of high donations

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Education
  • Up to 3 months experience in retail and customer service
  • Ability to perform cash register duties
  • Good customer service skills
  • Understanding of clothing, fabric, and furniture value and usefulness

  • Ability to work within the mandate of and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Effective communication in English
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and/or lift items weighing up to 15kg (33lbs)
  • Dress appropriately for the job - professional casual
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Ability to work independently and within a team

Requirements:

  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • WHMIS
  • The Salvation Army on-line certification for abuse prevention
  • Clear internal abuse registry check
  • Participate in mandatory yearly training

Days and Hours of Work:

  • This position will be a full-time position working Wednesday to Saturday
